EHC Rev Limiter Question

Energy One
I have an '07 K9 (585 cam, big jet w/K&N, big radius pipes), which I pulled the EHC from last year, and installed a Wire Plus harness. I was shocked at the increase in performance. This leads to my question; does the Big Dog EHC have a programmed Rev Limiter built in? If it does, is that true for all years of K9s (I might move up to a newer K9 in '11)? I appreciate any input.

YES - the EHC have a rev limiter (which I found on my 04, back when it had an EHC). I suspect they kick in some place between 5800-6500 RPM.

Not to confuse the issue but I thought it was in the ignition. I know that it is in the programable thunderheart replacement that I installed ?

I`m with you on this one V cause if you use the BigDog dealer software you are not hitting the EHC but the ignition module itself ,the USB conection on the later EHC`s is only used to flash the ROM and you can adjust the rev limiter on a programable but on the Factory module its locked as well as the ignition curve is locked

Yea V, I think you're right....you hit the limiter at the ignition module. The after-market modules like Dyna do the same thing with a setable pot.

Good catch.....

Past history.......

I think the rev limiter control on my 2007 is in the black S&S EFI/ignition control box with the 9-pin serial D-connector. It's where you can see all the self-learning EFI maps, O2's and other engine data. It also monitors engine temp and controls over heated engine shutdown sequence. All factory set and not dealer programmable. I've read that this is why S&S can offer the two year engine warranty.

"You are hooking up to the S&S EFI module with S&S Pro Tune II software and you can only monitor the gauge readings and see the alarms. You cannot upload or download and fuel map. You can't do squat but see what is setting the alarm and your live sensor readings. Sounds like looking at the instrument cluster on the dash of your car. The BDM fuel map is proprietary and only they can change it at the moment." From Nomad2day

The engine performance on the 2011 may not be as good. Try before you buy.
