Ignition module...I think...help

Energy One

Decided to start a new thread since i think i have narrowed my problem down to the ignition module, thanks to you all. When the bike runs long enough to get warm or hot, it shuts off and won't start and the red light won't lit up on the ignition module. I let it cool down and it starts right up, obviously with the red light on. Is my module trashed?

I started the bike and took a heat gun directly at the ignition module. As soon as it got hot, the bike died. I'm assuming the module is trashed, right? If so, can i just replace it with one of the local Harley shop?

Sure sounds like you got it,

Exactly same symptoms for me. I finally used the heat gun when I was 95% sure it was the module and same thing occured. Depending on the model of ignition module you have, in my case the Twin Tech 1005 it says if no red light flashing when cranking to check the white wire with black stripe to see if you have 12v with the ignition key in the on position. If you have the 12v then the module is bad. Here is the sheet on mine look at the trouble shooting chart on the last page. http://www.daytona-twintec.com/download/Model_1005_Ironhorse_Instructions.pdf
BTW, mine runs fantastic now after swapping out the unit. I went with a Crane because Twin Tech was no help at all. I had to find that chart on my own, I tried emailing Twin Tech a few times and their reply was take the bike to a qualified technician. They could at least have sent me this pdf or told me were to find it.

Best of luck!

I have a thunder heart module. How do I know which model of module is it?
I took the points cover off and it was right on front of the unit. My bike originally came with a Thunderheart but it was replaced, probably for the same reason by a previous owner to a Twin Tech. Might look on the Thunderheart web site or contact them and see if they have a simple procedure for testing it. Also do a search on Thunderheart ignitions here I remember seeing a number of threads on it.

Best of luck.
