Ignition printout

For all you new owners I thought it might be interesting for you to see what your ignition readout would look like. I hear from some that you don't get it and others do.
The dealer is suppose to download it and send it to the company on any warranty issue.
It's kind of interesting and some have even got the diagnostic software to do it themselves. I think it's available from Thunderheart.

Yep, after about 36,000 miles or so. Looks like my sweet spot is 2700 rpm with over 86 hours here. Notice 23 hours of idling at 1000rpm.
And 3 seconds at 6300?

All of you should get a printout at your next service.

Thats a good point Pro, you can see I don't have shit for time above 5000 rpm yet I have 6 rev hits.
But based on my history you can see I don't hotrod the bike very much. Only a few seconds above 5000 rpm. Might look different for those that tell stories of 100's of rev limiter hits. :flag:

Yeah i always get alot of time in the 2500-2800 rpm range. I like to roll with that 2500 light lit.

Just got my bike from routine service the other day and having the forks re-built. Had them do the print out also. 10 total rev hits and none over 2 sec. Majority of time spent at around 2900-3000 range with equal placement on both side of around 200 rpms. Ask dealer about revs hit and he said with that few and the very small fraction of time, it could have been a missed shift or anything, nothing to worry about.

It is good to get a print out occasionally when you have it in the shop for sure.

That printout was a long time ago. Need to get a new one now that I have a lot more miles on the clock.

Thanks,
Ray

I am pretty sure on the Rev Hits, it counts at 5300 RPM and above. I know on Ray's chart he shows 6 and those 6 are in the 5300 and above. Mine was 10 and 10 were in 5300 and above, so it appears that is the magic number.

I still can't believe I even have any. Although I ride at high speed I never see a yellow light on the tack. But dealer always say no worries as it's minor compared to others.

Interesting about the 5300 comment. I'll have to look at that again.

Ray,

Not positive on the 5300 as being the number, I just know when I looked at mine last week, there was 10 hits shown and there was 10 reading for 5300 and above, much like yours.

Now may not be that 5300 is the number and that some of those times at higher are actually the hits, say where it shows 6000rpm at 4 sec for example, may be 2 hits at 2 secs for a total of 4.

Would love to hear something from Ohmster or other more knowledgable to find right number though, but mine showed 10 and there was 10 time in the 5300 and above. May be nothing more than irony.

Can not say honestly that I have not seen the yellow lights on a few occasions and do recall only one seeing red (and it was on purpose to see where the rev limiter came in place) but that is it to my knowledge. Still only 10 hits for me and totaly was only a few seconds.

I did see one time while I was at shop, a read out for one that had over a 100 in a much short period of time. Than again it had very little wear left on the rear tire and was sitting up on bench with engine tore apart!!!! Some reason I have a feeling that BDM may not have covered that one.

Rev hits are independent of the time blocks. A rev hit is logged whenever the RPM exceeds (passes through, on the way up) a particular limit - something like 5850. The time logged above that limit is recorded just like time at any other level. Then if the RPM goes back down, and climbs through 5800 again, a second rev hit is logged.

I was told at the factory they are less concerned about the number of rev hits (unless it is ridiculously high) than they are about the amount of time logged at high RPM. The rev LIMITER - different than rev HITS - comes on at about 6200 RPM (or thereabouts), and will force the RPM back down by firing on only one cylindar. If Ohmster weighs in, he could probably tell us the real threshhold numbers.
