Help with motor sprocket nut removal

Any ideas on how to get the motor sprocket nut off? I have tried an impact wrench but the nut wont move – the manual says something about placing a jam bar between the engine sprocket and the clutch sprocket but does not show any diagrams of how to do this.

Any help or suggestions would be gratefully received.

Yes, i double checked that - this one is normal its the clutch hub nut that has a reverse thread.
Ok, I know that Jim's makes some special locking tools to get those tight nuts off but I have no suggestions for you. Some of the other members have done this so hopefully they will chime in soon.
Good luck,
Ray

I tried an electric impact wrench and it would not work so i got a pneumatic one and that wouldnt shift it either, havent tried heating it up though so i'll try that tonight, thanks

Also good to insurance is to replace the nut too when you get it hot. It probably has red lock tite on it.Not my favorite choice of lock tite. I hate to use it knowing it has to come apart. See if you can wedge a block of hardwood between the gears cut at an angle on the ends. This will prevent shock loading the shaft inside the trany.

No a breaker bar will not do the job. You need some sort of impact with lots of ft/lbs of torque
Take a piece of 1" X 1/4" steel flat bar 8 inches long to lock the sprockets (just place between the engine and clutch sprockets). the nut is torqued to 150 ft/lbs.

I use a Snap On 1/2 inch breaker bar and breaks em loose every time.

Clean the threads of the sprocket shaft and nut before re-installing, use Loctite 271 or 2760 and torque to 150 ft/lbs.

Failure to do this will result in the nut coming loose and the splines getting ate off of yourn alternator rotor...and worse.

Ray, thanks for the suggestion

CC thanks for the offer

In fact Big Dog stepped up and gave me a replacement inner primary… parts only which is why I am fitting it myself.

The crack in the old one was right where one of the mounting bolts goes through it so it could be a result of over tightening but I am kind of anal when it comes to torque setting on the motor so I don’t think it was my doing.

My dealer put it in as a good will claim even thought I am out of warranty and I have to give Big Dog credit, they came through and sent me a brand new one.
