There is a 3rd much better and easier solution and that is axels ehc that installs in minutes works flawlessly and has the longest best warrnty 2 years
#1 - Axels EHC replacement unit DOES NOT address all of the existing issues within the stock BDM electrical system. No one's replacement system does than, other than the ESC Unit.
#2 - The ESC Unit is provided w/ a 1 yr. warranty period. 4+ years and over 4k units and it has not been used, nor needed, to date.
#3 - fyi: BDM spent well over 7 years and a boat load of money trying to remedy the BDM Electrical System GREMLINS, with no success. So the electrical issues plaguing the BDMs has already proven that it is NOT quick and easy obstacle to remedy.

:disappointed: first of all, you don't even know how it will hold up over time, you don't barely put any miles on your bikes, on the other hand, me, Douggy and Ker have logged on some miles and can say trough experience that it is reliable.
Blah blah blah the headlight plug doesn't count that's is fixed by simply installing an led bulb
Don't you have any morals:oldlaugh:
Can only lead a horse to water...John, Ker let's just sit back and start saying the I told you so's when everyone comes back

I don't fully agree with #1. The RIP and ESC are identical in that regard except for the headlight plug and I'm not even a big fan of it cause if you need to remove your front end you have to take the whole bucket apart. What it addresses was never a problem. The problem was always the plastic plug which was easily fixed with replacing with a ceramic one. I did that with the Wires Plus many moons ago. RIP Gen2 that plugs into the stock EHC plug doesnt count thats a bandaid for shops cause owners bitch about the labor.

Otherwise I don't know what the ESC addresses that the RIP doesn't since they are the same. I will caveat that with I have an old RIP kit v1 and there was a loss a function in Run/Off and High/Low and they are now just a toggle one button. However They said that's been addressed and I have no reason to assume otherwise and Rodgers 2017 K9 all works like OEM.

I will say the Docs harness is just a bit neater in assembly but that doesn't impact FUNCTION.

Yes I have Both...8k Mikes on the RIP, and 2k Miles on the Docs both no issues.

Now if you want the added function of a voltage light warning light mapped into the oil pressure sending unit you will have to go with the ESC. But that is a NEW function and I do think it's cool.

Overall they are identical in FUNCTION and I wouldn't agrue one over the other to address the OEM issues of the stock EHC. It's matter of preference, choose to support Doc or the new BigDog. Neither options are the wrong decision.

And if you wanna GET super crazy a little extra work and you can get a Motogadget unit that will have Bluetooth connectivity for fault indicators and keyless keyfob. Nobody has done it yet, but I've taken a good look at it and believe it would retain all OEM functions. I would caveat that statement with if you don't understand the current electrical system don't try to make that work..lol

The ESC is "not" the same as the RIP! The ESC mimics the BDM Hand Control "Inputs" exactly the same as the EHC. Where as the RIP "Does Not"!
- "I'm not even a big fan of it cause if you need to remove your front end you have to take the whole bucket apart."
I'm sorry but are you too lazy to repair your bdm correctly?
The front end does NOT need to be removed. And yes the headlight bucket will need to be opened up for access to install the New and "UPGRADE" Headlight Harness w/ Ceramic H4 Connector.
Please investigate into the "current rating" given on the JST. ("Backbone" Harness Headlight Connector to Headlight Sub-Harness Connector)
- "The problem was always the plastic plug which was easily fixed with replacing with a ceramic one. I did that with the Wires Plus many moons ago."
Now, "you" are an EE (Electrical Engineer)?
The melting H4 plug was NEVER the issue. That was nothing more than a smokescreen given to the NHTSA by BDM for past, present and future liability issues.
BDM tried to resolve this one issue, without any successful resolution, from 2004 to the day they closed.
Please further investigate into BDM Headlight FAILURE issues.

DOC's ESC
- Are built/sold to be compatible with BDMs built between 2004 to Present.
- Are built/sold to be compatible with Carb or EFI.
- Are built/sold to have the same Hand Control Operator Inputs Functions as the EHC.
- Can be built/sold (optional) to be compatible the BDM Air Ride System to have the same Hand Control Operator Inputs Functions as the EHC.
- Can be built/sold (optional) to include a Battery/Charging System Fault via the Oil Pressure Light.

Can any other EHC replacement kits provide "all" the above mention features/options to the BDM owners?
NO, without a doubt!

Maybe I need to have this discussion with the writer...

I'm aware of the headlight issues...i posted in regards to FUNCTION. Not any other points you rebuttled with. I won't argue with the air ride, EFI I have no personal experience.
