You know, I really don't know why that washer is fiberglass. I bet it has something to do with excessive vibration. The fiber washer was supposed to help with the heat from the cylinders?
Do you know how thick of a washer? And where to find a fiberglass washer that goes under it? I think a HD shop would have them (guess)? There is suppose to be a fiber washer in between the coil cover and the head, and a thicker flat washer on top. Use red locktight and torque to specs. Sorry I don't have that number in front of me.
You can get the washers from the Kaptin.
I had no idea there was a fiber washer, guess mine are missing as well..hmmPM me your address and I'll throw a couple in the mail to you. I doubt Harley carries them. I get them from the Kaptin and keep them in stock, because I find so many of the missing.
It does. It reduces the metal on metal friction. I have a few if you can’t find them. I ordered all new hardware when I installed the new 140 c. I. Motor and bought duplicates. You know, I really don't know why that washer is fiberglass. I bet it has something to do with excessive vibration.
Chris @ Bigdogisback. He has everything!Do you know how thick of a washer? And where to find a fiberglass washer that goes under it? I think a HD shop would have them (guess)?

Except for the fact, that the top mount bolt doesn't have one.you would think with it being a fiberglass type shim it would be for isolation.

From what I understand, with 50 g's of vibration, shaking that big coil cover, it is just enough damping to keep the cover from cracking.Which makes them just spacers and looks like they could have used metal.
I guess the guys that switched to metal shims will let us know if they start cracking. From what I understand, with 50 g's of vibration, shaking that big coil cover, it is just enough damping to keep the cover from cracking.
