Newbie question number 4

Even with the new wiring in. Do not remove the Slam Button. Always a great back up!!
It’s about a 50-50 deal whether it’s going to start with the start button. Or I’ll probably gonna have to use the slam. It was a beautiful day here in Washington which we don’t get enough of so instead of like I should I went riding today. I think everyone for their advice and I will be checking into it this week.

I am putting a new start run switch in just because it’s probably older than dirt. Maybe I’ll get lucky and that will be it.

When your ignition switch takes a dump, install a new marine grade switch. Its spring loaded so it returns like a car or boat would. This will relieve you of using the Run/Off and Start buttons.
Do they make such a thing that will actually fit in the hole where the start running switches at. How do you make a bracket and mounted elsewhere?

I already ordered a new start run switch, but I’ll keep this in mind. Is there a thread telling what wires to move to there? I assume something has to be moved

With the key switch from HDM its a true plug n play. Wires already in place. The tractor switch will take some splicing.

So just so I’m understanding this correctly you’ll be able to start the bike with that switch instead of the start run switch?

No. The HDM switch is simply a replacment/plug n play, for the key switch. New improved key switch. The Run/Start buttons are on the handlebars. I suppose if you rewire/butcher the wiring, you can go whatever way you want? If you want to keep things original BigDog, these are the items you will want as they are plug n play without having to change/run wires elsewhere. Your bike, your descision which way you want to go. Personally, I prefer to keep things as original as I can. But to each their own.

Always good to have keys that stay in the hole. But I remember right they have this P clips to something maybe they’ve had issues with it falling out

I had the same problem u having with the start button, had to push it hard to make contact, shimmed it up with electrical tape and it worked good but I went on and ordered the the new boards for both sides, it works perfect now. Easy to replace too.
