Sounds like you figured the problem. You should be able to find a CB @ ur local autoparts store.

If you can't find a CB put a 40 amp fuse

Fuse it is a good option. Found the CB on bigdogpartsking. This is such a great group!!!

1 1/2"....some auto parts store will rent tools, just a thought.

If you decide to go this route im fixing to describe then buy this kit from bigdogpartskingpin.com...this will replace the the circuit breaker with the red stub terminal...it fits right in the circuit breakers place...follow the diagram below that i pencil whipped....this will help eliminate future problems and help you know where the problem is....This is a sure way to protect your ecm and battery if a voltage regulator goes bad or a battery dead shorts....40 amp to protect the battery from a bad voltage regulator and a 20amp fuse from battery to the ecm to protect the ecm... I wire all bikes this way no matter what!!!!
