The .585 will definitely wake your dog up. The thing is that S&S builds the 117ci with a.600 cam in it. But with our dogs if you go any bigger then a.585 you have to deck, port and polish your heads and put different valves and valve springs. It is a big difference from stock I did it on my 05 chopper but it cost a bundle of money to do it. I think that the .585 is perfect you wake up your dog and only have to change the cam. To me that is the way to go unless you are going to ride balls to the wall all the time. I am going to go with the.585 in my 05 bulldog the 600 is just to much money and the 585 opens up the 117 pretty good.

:disappointed:I understand who it came from, but I have made this change in my bike and its BS, and a little research on cams goes a long way.
:agree: and I have been told that I should have put a 600 in my bike also by an "old timer" at the local ex-Big Dog Dealer, all I know is it sounds better than a bike he has installed a 600 in, more radical, if you know what I mean, and it is so much faster than before it's ridiculous, maybe that's cuz my engine had a 545 stock and some I have heard come with a 565 or sumth'n like that, if I had a 565 then it might not have been such a huge increase in power.

I believe that some of these dogs came with a.569 cam and that old man is the one who put the 600 cam into my chopper. I love the power in my chopper but I don't ride as hard as I used to and I believe that the 585 is a good compromise You get better sound and better performance but your fuel mileage is better than with the 600 the 600 really likes the gas.

Haha, yea I kinda was wondering if you knew Don, he's worked on a lot of the Dog's in our neck of the woods, he did another friend of mines 05 Bulldog also with a 600 cam, good dude but I disagree with him as far as the cam goes.

Ya he really likes to push the .600 cam but let's face it it is because he makes a lot more money on the.600 cam versus the.585.

Right, I agree with 585. That got me thinking if you do all the 600 mods, how much hotter the engine runs?
Was talking with a known engine builder, he asked what I did before the noise on my engine. Valid question, I told I rode from Daytona to Miami around 85-90 mph. He said S&S engine will not last that kind of riding... And I thought S&S is at least as strong as HD engine, but what do I know.

I put a 585 in mine...the power is noticeable but not huge. I still managed to get 150 miles on a tank and put 4 gallons in. I actually think I'm running rich gonna drop the main jet.

I'm guessing he has experienced problems before, to have made a comment like that.

I ran my Bulldog for about 10 minutes in the shop with the protune program hooked up and it got up to 250 degrees. What was interesting was the intake air climbed to 135 degrees. I guess it's the location of the intake sensor. Does anyone know the max engine temperature before it throws up a signal. I think someone mentioned 300 to 320. I might call S&S this morning or at least shoot them an email to find the answer hopefully.
and...... ?
