2006 K9 - Had the same problem last night... But I think my problem is in the switch. Sounds like the signal to the starter gets "interupted". One click and nothing. After 2-3 attemps starts normal.

Lose cables (battery, starter) can do this intermittently. Also a bad relay. If yu have the thunder heart harness, its likely an $8 Hella relay you can buy that snaps in.

My K-9 won't start...when I hit the start button the horn chirps and the blinkers flash. Battery cables are tight. :confused: Suggestions?

i had the same think happen to me,on my 2006 k-9 click click click, it was the compression releases, i was hearing, i pushed the connectors down real hard on the ehc and it fired right up, turns out i had a recalled EHC,had it replaced worked good, then battery kept going dead, replaced the battery. worked fine for about 2 rides, then battery kept going dead again, AHHHHH lets jump start it in a hurry at night without much light, + -, + - , red on red all that good stuff , hooked it up backwards and guess what ? fried the EHC in a milla second, glowed ,smelled , then stunk real bad. 500 dollar mistake...take your time when playing with the electrics on these bigdogs, mike

Awww, settle down there, MLB - I've got 6500 on my '07 K-9, and it's starting just fine every time. Problems do occur on these thoroughbreds, but for the most part they are a very solid design. My two-bits. :up:

It's all hit and miss...some people have these problems and some have yet to experience any, even after several thousand miles.

How? I've seen motors with manual switches, on the side, near the plugs. Are you saying to push in the covers on top of the rockers?

Sorry for the dumb question - never had a compression release bike before...

The horn beeping is a new design in the newest EHC. It does that too tell you that the battery is low. These bike want 12.6 or higher voltage @ the battery. I have had a hand full of batt. reading good voltage but would fail a load test.

na Frank.....thats not a dumb question......I never knew what those were for either....til I joined this forum:lol: but yes....you push in on those covers on top of the rockers if you want to do the compression release buy hand..

Lambo...those are the cheap releases on the sparkplugs. The real ones are the hole in the center of your rocker boxes. They are electric but can be pressed manually...

Here is a pic of the manual compression release Lambo is talking about. They either are tapped in on the side of the sparkplugs or on the oppisite side of the heads.

Or the sparkplug ones;

A couple weeks ago, went on a 75 mile ride after work, got home and turned the bike off in the driveway. About 15 mins later, tried to start the bike to ride it into the garage, and nothing. Battery is fully charged. When I push start, all I hear is a brief click from the compression release. That's it. Dealership tows the bike in, and puts a new switch on it. I pick the bike up on Saturday, it starts right up and I ride it for about 25 miles. Get it home, and put in on the battery tender. Sunday, it starts right up, and we go for a ride. Ride about 35 miles outside of town, and stop for a bite to eat. We go to leave, and my bike is doing THE EXACT SAME THING as before. Turn the key, lights come on and battery is fine. Push RUN, and then hit "START" and all it does is click. So, had to have a friend come trailer me back into town.

Has anyone else run into this problem? HELP!
Your probably getting primary oil into the starter. It can be a problem on 05 and later BD's. The clutch can sling oil right up at the starter drive gear. ther is no support for the end of the jackshaft and the gear will deflect when it is initially engaged.

Invest in one of those buttons that mounts on your soleniod cover for insurance.

Keep an eye on the bottom side of your starter when your shinnin the beast up, they will ultimately leak oil (that's primary fluid not startin fluid). This oil will end up gumming up the brushes in the starter.:zz2cents:

HOWS it going to start any better with button? Cheaper way is is carry a jumper wire.If all else fails call bdm and ask them if they have a better seal for the starter to keep the primary oil out. 05chop
