just talked to one of the bdm dealers about a cam upgrade, was thinking of the 640, thay tell me it is a good streetable cam with strong mid range power that sounds killer, or maybe a 655 thats awesome but should consider decking heads to get all the power it puts out, yea I'm looking to change springs, rockers, & a little polishing on heads while thay are off, I still want it realiable, but strong the dealer suggest going bigger than 600 cause while that is a good upgrade, most people want more soon after the 600 upgrade, then do it aginto something larger, any input???

just make sure you set the compression right for whichever cam.

usually the higher the comp the lower it will hit in the rpm.

If you're a HP.junkie, and don't mind buzzing the motor to higher RPM's,the S&S 640 cam is one of the best. You need to be careful with valve springs,as that cam will destroy exhaust springs in a heartbeat.
You absolutly need to have all your "ducks in a row",in terms of carb, air cleaner, compression, heads, and exhaust. If you don't,you will be VERY dissapointed.:(
John
What 655 cam are you looking at ?

not sure who makes the 655, the dealer told me of them, & thay were great for high hp, still trying to decide, I've got a year left on warrenty, but I've got the itch for a better cam, may go slightly smaller maybe 630 or so, just dont want to do it & then say I wish I had done more, there is no such thing as to much power, this dealer yea its a bd dealer also put that 655 cam in a aih among other things, went to the drag track & walked away from a hyusbusa, then shut it down @ 1000 ft busa ciouldnt catch it, the shop is bikers dream, looking for more power & that thump sound

There is no way an AIH or BDM is going to come close to touching a busa. I have a 127 in my BD and I have a good friend that has a busa to play with when he has a need for speed and there is no way I can stay with him. My Ridgeback is squirrly when you get over 110 and the busa can run at 140+ for however long!!!

rocket123 I hear ya. but I did talk with a busa owner that has his tricked out, he clocked his self with gps doing 255,, he told me that he cant out run a dog on short runs between stop lights, thats from the busa owner,, he said dollar per dollar the dog has great torque, & thats what gets it out of the hole..

oh no doubt eric, the busa going that fast prob has a turbo there for it makes its power up top, and he prob cant get on full throttle because of the bike prob wanting to flip back..

Many of us on this forum are hp/tq junkies so i will tell you what will get you the best numbers and attempt to save you time and money. I have had mine on the dyno twice and played with dozens of setups and have the sheets to back it up so here goes...

deck cylinders to zero deck height
deck heads to achieve 83cc chambers
woods .650 cam
woods valve springs
XXX carb jetted 32/78
thunderheart ignition set timing on #4
good flowing air filter k&n or something like it
good pipe, i went for looks so it hurt my numbers to a small degree. Not saying mine is the best, but just helping to cut out time and expense...hope this helps my numbers are 120hp/130tq and is a handfull when you hit it!

Marv...How is your motor set up ? I'm in the process of having the heads done and a 640 cam installed. Mega flo doing the heads (11.1-1). Jugs getting cut to use MLS gaskets. G carb will be bored also...not sure about installing T-Jet yet. I have had it installed on other motors, worked ok. Just figured since boring the carb it's not needed this time. Any thoughts? Anybody else have any updated info or how motor is set up with 640 ? How do you like the 640?
Thanx

I'm running the 600 and will get it changed out soon. Just need more $$$ to get the job done. Also, new pipes coming...

I run a Red Shift 656V2 cam street/strip, zero deck and head work done by John Sach's to include valves, decking, porting and so on, .675 lift springs, S&S Roller Rockers, R&B Racing 2-1 pipe and Thundermax wide band auto tune system.
Compression was 205 psi in both jugs.....
Cam spec's
In: 260 duration and 656 lift.
Ex: 258 duration and 656 lift.
Bike runs like a sob....:D
In the 130's hp and in the 140's tq.
Whats not to like....
Built a couple years ago..
Fun to ride all day long.
As John said, have all your ducks in a row...
It will smoke the 300mm at 25-30 mph
To think about it, it has smoked a few transmissions too...

Hey,
The 640 will respond real good with that compression. I have my rev limiter raised and the motor pulls all the way. I install limiters to the tappets to keep them on the cam at high Rpms for min valve float. Also have jims roller rockers in s n s boxes. Deck height cut to -.015 by cutting .040 off the jugs. Heads stage 3 port job and valve work plus cut .060 off to get me over 11:1
Psi carb really pulled it all together. If you can find a gen 4 for reasonable I highly recommend it. Dyna ski ignition. Chain drive.
The tranny is surprisingly holding up but I've gone thru 3 pivot bolts on the swing arm. As great as these builds are the force of the motor will always find the weakest part on the bike, but it sure is a blast.

Thanx for the info !! I am axious to see how it roars down the street. Mine has S&S roller rockers now. I know the deck will be cut but. don't know as how much right now. I will find out when he (MegaFlo) is done doing his majic !! What tappet limiters do you reccomend ? I'm hoping not too much breaks when it's running hard !!
Thanx again

Marv what is reasonable for a Big Air PSI. I have a 4th Gen that I sent in for the new upgrade and never did re-install it. I paid 1295 for the Chrome Carb and with the upgrade is in new condition again. I would like sell mine and was thinking about asking 1200. Would you say that is a fair price. If not I guess I could drop it to 1150. Any takers
