I just bought a 2006 Mastiff and the guy I bought it from said the tranny was the Big Dog version of the Baker 6 speed?? What does that mean? Is it a Baker 6 speed or not?? Any help would be greatly appreciated!!!!

I also need the service manual for it if anyone knows where I can get that..

Thanks :D

Take a picture of it and post it, i'm sure we could tell if it's a Baker. Did the guy you bought it from say it was replaced?

Interesting

So... are all the BD Baker tranny's this way? Or was 06 an odd year? I thought we had S&S engines and Baker Tranny's.

Sorry you thought wrong. BD runs S&S motors but some of the years, 04-06 I think, aren't even complete true S&S motors. They have special work done to them to meet EPA, longer jugs lower compression flat top pistons blah blah blah TP rocker boxes and covers. Earlier bikes had complete S&S motors and many of the later bikes, after BD discovered that they shouldn't be trying to build motors, are complete S&S. However many of us have BD motors where the short block was built by S&S but the top end was built by BD. To my knowledge all of the BD transmissions from 2003 on have BD cases with Baker guts.

I knew about the motor mod's, but was completely unaware of the tranny mods... not even sure why BD would have thought of doing that. Would have kept price down if they would just use a straight Baker gear box...it's not like Baker wouldn't have something they wanted.

Actually, My 2003 choppers transmission says BAKER 6-speed OD right on it..... Though it could be like you said, baker guts inside a BD case...... but I wonder my it would have the Baker logo/name on it then.

On my 2003 Pit Bull transmission top, it says " Big Dog Motorcycles ~ Baker six-speed overdrive". Slickest tranny, I ever shifted. Would NEVER consider anything else, ever again.

Because its a Baker Tranny.
:2thumbs::whoop::whoop::whoop:Ya, I figured that it is. I was responding to one of the post that said 2003 and up had BDog trans with baker guts. Not that it makes that big of a difference. Like what Jersey James said, Slickest tranny....

With all that said, and others talking about BDM going down hill and parts becoming unavailable..... Can't we just buy parts from Dennis Kirk, and JP cycles. Most of what I see on my bike can be bought from them. Is it because some of the newer bikes have special BD parts on them?
