BDL vs ULTIMA

Energy One

FWIW,
My experience over the years, has been that Ultima makes some EXTREMELY GOOD parts, and pieces, especially in the Engine department. Also they handle most of the same brand aftermarket parts, as the other warehouse distributors do. I also find that user error, a lot of the time on any part, becomes the fly in the ointment.

So if I am actually in the market for an Ultima open primary someone tell me which one specifically I am looking for I can’t seem to find an ad that says this one will fit Kelly’s 2004 big dog choppervSs 107 lol

Hey guys ... I want to add my 2 cents. I built one off custom bikes for 13 years. And I get the coolness of an open primary. I used Ultima's and BDL's open belt drives. Could not justify the price of Primo. In the end the steel clutch plates eat into their interface with the clutch basket and clutches start to drag and clatter. I could not stand the noise and removed them and went to closed wet primary's on all my personal customs. I have a 2004 ridgeback that I'm customizing and will certainly keep the closed primary. That's just me (do not like a bike that sounds like it's coming apart) and to each it's own. I think they are cool looking for sure but they are not for me. One last thing .... if you buy one I advise holding onto your closed primary. As to which is better ... I did not find one to be better than the other.

Pretty sure this is the 2” Ultima model. Requires you to adjust the transmission to align with the motor face. Pretty straightforward & plenty of vids on youtube to guide you along. Not super expensive.

So when you bought a Ultima for the 03 chopper. it came with 1.5" spacer? and you machined to 1-7/16? and it bolted up?

I have a 04 RT Chopper and looking at Ultima for the money to see what I Think.

Everyone runs the dag style with out side bearing support?

The street set up looks better. Just curious if it will hold up if I change bearings often, vs the other.

Looks like they make 3 outer covers so can order one that does not look like the rest for the most part. They also offer a Heal gaurd.

Also I was just told Ultima sold out to Vtwin so not sure you can order stuff from them anymore?
Plenty of them out there to be had. Not cheap but they are available. Heel guard isn’t necessary in my opinion. But to each his own. If you’re going to pop for one the sooner the better. They ain’t going to get any cheaper that’s for sure.
Good luck! Keep us updated on your progress!
