No wonder BDM is rated #1 in customer service by all the dealers! BDM took care of my starter and even ordered me a new speedo.
The dealer did it right on the spot and even said BDM was waiting for the warranty request. I send digital pics to go with the request but BD said they already had the pics so all done.
I can't believe the level of service this company gives out!

Oh by the way, for all you 05 owners and all the newer owners. The new speedo's will go back to the white face and come with a different bracket. Mine is on order and I will get it put on on 1 June.
Will post pics later of the busted starter. It really looked bad once out of the bike.

Here are a couple pics of the starter after it was pulled. Sorry for the large pictures but it really shows the detail of the fracture.

And here is the bike on the lift at Steel Dreams in Burlington, WA.

thats some break ray!

can't use those 2.4 kw starters. you'd need a 500 cca battery to turn it. i think stock is 1.6.

hope the ring gear on the basket is ok. if not maybe the bandit clutch and basket for 300 is in order.

starter unbolts real easy. just need swivel and ext to get the bottom bolt out. hardest part is snaking the starter out.

to push start you gotta hit the run button first or no fire!
Hey Sul, got the refurbish sheet out of the box and see that the starters are raterd at 2kw with a max of 2.4kw.
Seems all of the starter replacements are refurbished starters. The one that broke had a sticker on it saying it was a refurbished starter and the new one they put on had the same sticker. I was able to snag the diagnostic sheet out of the box and that is where I got the above numbers from.

Is there going to be a blanket recall on the speedos for all 05's or just on certain # builds? I'm still on my first one.

I could tell after about 3 unsuccessful cranks my factory battery would be taxed. I can tell a huge difference with this new Drag Specialties battery w/ a cca over 300.

I was watching the V-Twin show on Speed Channel and they were showing Eddie Trotta's new red bike. I actually saw the bike at the Portland Easyrider Show. It is a nice ride.
Anyway, he was saying all he uses it a Spykes 1.4kw starter and he uses big 124cu in motors. Says they have a different gear ratio or something and he never has a problem with them. I just checked out Spykes website and see they offer several varieties. I imagine that if I have problems again later I will have to pay for mine to be replaced. Can't expect BDM to cover my bike forever I guess.

I was able to snag the spec sheet out of the starter box. Here is what it says.

So, I guess my next question would be when you see a starter ad and it states that the starter is a 2.4kw is that "Rated Power" or the "Max of Power" as illustrated on the sheet I posted?

Yeah, I already stated that on page 2. BDM covered everything. I took a CD with the pictures on it to be submitted with the claim and Tonya the warranty claims person at the dealer said that BDM told her they already had the photo's and were waiting for the claim.
They did it in about an hour and a half and also covered my new speedo that I will pick up on the 5th.
Can't say enough good things about BDM!!
