Clutch adjustment

I'm a no slack kinda guy, if you back off the pushrod 1/4 turn or 1/8th when I'm adjusting the slack I watch the jam nut when that starts to turn you back it off just a hair and you're at no slack. So I lock down the adjuster right before the ball and ramp starts moving.

If you've backed off 1/4 or 1/8th a turn the pushrod then when it starts to turn you have to fill that gap before it applies pressure to start spreading the plates. So basically 1/4 turn will start to apply further during the pull and 1/8th a hair less. It's really splitting hairs between the two and personal preference I guess.

The jam nut don't lie....the rest of the action is in the ball and ramp design on when the throw is enough to engage or disengage.

I also like to pull on the cable at the lever to put pressure on it.

Then rock the lever back and forth to really see how much play you have there.

You usually have more than it appears without pulling on the cable.

I like that to be just absolute minimum as well, as I don’t want slop there or the pushrod

OK people, I have adjusted the clutch doing this. I turned in the rod just before I feel it touching. Then I backed it off 1/4". That has made a difference. It now grabs at the lever maybe 1/2 inch as I release. Before it would grab right away. So in my case it was best for me to have that rod barley touch. Hope this helps some one else. I have tried to adjust this thing 4 times with all the same results. As long as the rod barley touches it worked for me. I guess it all depends on what one would consider light pressure on the rod.

If you're adjusting the rod and have the cover off the primary its easier to tell when you get resistance (you can see the result) by touch is difficult at times.
Also you said 1/4", it should be 1/8 to 1/4 turn. Generally I use 1/8 turn or less.
My goal is no creep and easy to get into neutral and no slip in any gear. to tight and 5gear on my bike I can hear the plates back it off just ever so little and no clutch noise in 5th.
