dead or alive? sudden death!

Hey, something happened to the dog today.
I was 120 miles from home, riding with some friends and suddenly the dog died! Like it was a total lack of voltage!
It was weird cause all of the lights were on and responding, speedo, etc even that damn faggy vespa horn...
So I push start button and nothing... I push the run button and then the start one and it start functioning.
But not for long, 100 meters ahead it made the same thing. But it didn't resurrect.
I pull aside and check everything, (as mentioned before everything worked except no motor starting)., I even pull my seat but when I opened the switch and push the run button no starting, no clicking also.
The EHC led light of the ignition was off.
So we went to have lunch and when we returned, 45 mins later, the damn thing started! Yes, it was alive!

Oh no! Not for much. One mile ahead and it died again. My buddys went for the trailer and when they returned, it started! But again died 3 mins after.

Checked all the visible wiring, battery posts, the switch open all when key is turned on.
Back in home the lovely piece of ch... Started!!!

Any advice? Any help would be great!

do search on the cam sensor.just sayin.
He doesn't have a cam sensor.

I think you are going to have to go through all the wiring and look for a short/ground. Heat effects this as I learned with my oil pressure light. When it gets hot it expands and grounds and causes havic.

Also, did you notice if you had any fault lits on the EHC? While you are at it I would pull the plugs on the EHC and ensure they are filled with die-electric grease. Your 06 may not have had this Service Bulletin completed.

One other though would be the gas cap vent. Next time it does it slowly unscrew the gas cap and if you hear a suction sound you know it's not venting. Pull the center out of it and shitcan it!!!

Mine did the same thing Ray. Thought it was something major, but it was just the gas cap not venting.

Ok, let me tear the biatch apart, being there ill seal all the wiring.

The only light on when I hit the start button was the air ride led?!?! But as I told before, no click click in the starter, when the ignition led was on dog started but die inmediately. Also, no dielectric grease.

I also check this and was normal, just asking, would this issue affect the electrical system? Remember no starter clicking and no ignition led turned on !

chihuasbigdog,

I agree with what Ray and the others are saying. But it might be easier if you can watch the EHCs LEDs while it's running and wait until it replicates the stalling condition, and then take note of the LEDs that light up on the EHC "before" you turn the key off or touch anything. The LEDs "should" stay lit when the bike stalls "if" the problem doesn't cause the EHC main auto breakers to trip off. That will help put you in the right direction. Also try and take note of the headlight also to see if it "flickers" when the bike stalls.

Hope this helps!

Opinions are like assholes...so here's my asshole:

My money is on a cable in your charging system. I'd start by testing each cable from the rotor/stator, to the voltage regulator, to the battery. I bet you've got a loose/broken connection somewhere in this chain. If so they're easy/cheap to fix. But everyone else had good suggestions too.

WHen you had your EHC harness off did you check to make sure there was not a rubber seal down inside the EHC? If there is, pull it out of both sides and put Dielectric grease on the connections. Shit can that rubber seal, it should not be in there. If you end up taking you fuel tank off, dielectric grease all the connections under there as well. DO you live near the ocean? That ocean salt water air will play havoc on your electrical system.

If this is an 06 K9 then I would pull the fuel tank off and check for damaged wires or crunched connectors. I'd be willing to bet a beer that the connector going to the right switch assembly is crushed.
