Updated above. What a mess, got it fixed--hopefully it'll hold. I'm thinking that this bike never came with these screws like this. I think this bike had a frame tab and it was broken/chipped when this guy wrecked it. I can't imagine how it would have been as he basically dropped it (have receipts and pics) and he got it fixed back in 2007 BUT who knows. Perhaps it was broken and someone instead ground off the tab and then tapped in some 6-32 cap screws. BAD IDEA. If anyone is ever in this position, get your tab fixed. If that is absolutely not an option then tap in some 10-32 set screws. Plenty of room.

Well I hope it holds. Christ who knows. Even if they don't it's not a critical part. I gotta believe two 10-32 grade 8 screws will hold. If not next step is drill it 3/16 and put in hardened dowel pins. Next step is light it on fire and call State Farm.

Should check it in a few months, see if the screw heads are deteriorating from the impact .

I will check it often. There is just enough of a gap between the neck and the plate that I can shine a light in there and see them. Told the wife to be gentle on letting the handlebars fall away. Given the time, the cussing and the taco bell runs she made for me over the last few days I think she gets it.

I recently had my bike serviced, 2008 K9 and after I rode iit 200 miles I noticed a black mark the size of my finger.."burned" into my spotless upper forks. What could have caused this to happen. I can't afford to scar my upper forks anymore. Any help is appreciateted, thank you.

So random question...why didn't you just buy a new fork stop plate? With the dowel pins?

I'm all about fixing stuff but a new fork plate is like $40

The plate wasn't the issue, the issue was the stop in the neck of the frame. There is usually a tab that sits in the channel of that plate. That was gone and someone tapped in some small screws which sheared off (heads were still in the channel held in by grease). I had to tap new screws into the neck that then extended down into the channel of the plate and stopped at each side where the plate channel ended.
