Front Brake Caliper Removal

I'm in the process of removing the front forks and I need to disconnect the brake line from the Caliper. I also plan to replace the front brake line on reassembly. Will I lose brake fluid by disconnecting the bolt I'm pointing to in the picture? I've never replaced brake lines before and I'm not quite sure how this mechanism works. Also, I haven't removed the fluid yet.

You are correct. That is the banjo bolt. Once removed all fluid in the line will drain out. Just be prepared and you'll be fine. If you dont have to disconnect, simply hang the caliper from the handlebars. Regular string works well.

Thanks for the quick response. Alot of what I'm doing is for the first time so much is new to me. I've decided to Rechrome the handlebars as well since I'm replacing the triple Tree and forks. Another weekend and I'll have everything down to frame, motor, and wiring. I'll have to admit it makes me a little nervous tearing everything apart like this but so far I haven't had any real problems. Having all the member support makes this tremendously easier...knowing that I have the much needed support. Really appreciate all the help.

That’s how you learn. It will all be worth it in the end. Probably easier to take caliper off then disconnect the line so you can control where to fluid goes. Good luck.

I know the feeling. Tore the Pitbull completly apart and Then asked myself if I could put it back together? As long as ya pay attention as you tear it down you should be good.

Yeah...the bike is looking a little pathetic at the moment but I have a beautiful picture in my mind of how it will look once finished. The tank, fenders, and battery covers will go to my paint guy next week. I think I mentioned before that the previous owner broke one of the battery covers and never had the new ones painted. I feel highly confident that my paint guy can Air brush the flames to match. The tank and fenders will only get buffed in preparation for the Ceramic Coating. I'm taking the wheels in for Ceramic Coating while their off the bike and also before installing the new Pully and rotors. He told me the tank and fenders need to be on the bike for Coating. I have a few more items to remove before packaging up for Spacecoast.

STILL TO REMOVE:
The first picture (enclosed) is the Headlight. Question: Is this a factory 3-wire splice? I would have expected a plug.

Second picture (enclosed) is the Speedometer Plug. I've got a Dakota Speedometer on it now but replacing it. Does the new Dakota come wired with a plug?
