I would like to keep a couple of extra fuses for my bike, and my dealer mentioned, if I was really desparate on a Sunday, I could pick one up at an Auto Zone...has anyone bought a fuse for there dogs at an automotive store? Is this o.k., or would you recommend buying from the dealer?

You don't have fuses unless you got the new maxi fuse for the VR recall and CB recplacement. those can be bought off ebay for cheap.

The dealer showed me something under the seat, which resembled a fuse and said if the middle of this snapped in half, then you need a new one.

right... you must have the new fuse. I think BDM uses maxi fuses... can somebody verify this for me? Is the fuse like 1" wide or more like 2.5" wide?

Olmstr did mine the other day and gave me an extra fuse. It's a standard 40 amp fuse you can get at any Auto Zone. It's square and about an inch wide.

I'll post a pic when I get a chance. It's a plastic thing with two flat wide blade type connectors on one side that slide into the connector.
You can see through the plastic at the fusible connector.

I have a circuit breaker, is this fuse in addition to, or instead of?
They replace the CB and you then just use the fuse. They are doing it cause it blows faster than the CB.

They are also flashing the EHC if you have the USB style connectors. Mine is the round serial connectors so it doesn't get done. I forgot to ask Olmstr what it does for the EHC. He was doing them left and right over the last few days here keeping him busy.

Alicats speedo wasn't working and then it worked after it was flashed. He hooks up his laptop to your bike.

Sun_Bill, I'm still surprised you have circuit breaker on a 2007 K-9. They were not part of the Voltage Regulator recall, and at that time they should have all come with the circuit breaker, right near the battery. It would be a small box with a reset button on the bottom.

Can you take a picture of the circuit breaker you are referring to??

I see from Chuck's pic and what Ray is saying... they are running a standard ATC

But Ohmster himself said that he prefers MAXI fuses which are larger. he says they are more reliable. So that is what I ran. The large one is the MAXI and the other is a ATC for the battery tender.

Wayne,
The large plastic rubbery box on Gas Man's e-mail is what I was referring to...mine looks like that, and the fuse is located inside that plastic rubbery box. There was recall on this? When I bought the bike, the dealer specifically ran through how to carefully charge the bike with the battery tender...pull off the wall first, than from the bike. If I unplugged in the wrong order, it may blow something out he says...could you give me more info on the recall?

The recall was for older bikes, 2005 and 2006 - it did not apply to our 2007's. I'm still surprised you have a fuse rather than a circuit breaker.

I think P8RIOT Means circuit breaker rather than a fuse sun bill you are fine if you have the fuse.

What if you have an older EHC with no USB port like I have, it works ok now but will they replace it if I ask? ..
