How do you get into the headlight bucket? I removed the two set screws from the under side in front but it doesn't budge. I have a short somewhere in there that is making my headlight flicker on and off. It went out on me last night when I still had about 20 miles to go. It was a very dark ride. Turn signals are fine. When I got home I messed with the wire going into the back of the bucket and it flickered so I know there is a short in there somewhere. I just can't get in. :bang: :bang:   Thanks

Spin the inner chrome trim ring that sits right against the glass counter-clockwise (looking at it head-on; lefty-loosy, righty-tighty). It may help to wear some latex gloves to get a good grip - and use both hands, to keep the pressure symetrical.

Inside the chrome trim ring is another ring that actually holds the headlamp in place. You can rotate that one (same direction) by tapping on the slots with a small screwdriver or nail set.

Use some anti-sieze when you put it back together, and it will be easier the next time - and don't forget the set screws, or one day you'll notice the trim ring is gone, and people will call you funny names. :bang:

There is also a cheap and handy tool you can get from Pink Chopper for about $20.

Tapping around the outside of the ring with a rubber mallet first works wonders. It should then spin right off.

Cool, thanks. I'll try that too. I can't seem to get it with just my hands. Damn that thing is on tight. So is the bolts holding the headlight to the trees. SHit!

Well, it came off. There was never any never seace put on it. Damn. The threads on the retaining ring were all screwed up. Guess I wanted to buy a new headlight bucket anyway. LOL That is the biggest pain in the ass ever.
I found the short through. Ground wire came undone. Now I just have to figure out how to get it to stay together until I can get something new. It is looking ugly right now.
