K9 vs BD Chopper PROS & CONS

Energy One
i'D LIKE TO ASK SOME OF THE KNOWLEDGEABLE BD FORUM MEMBERS ABOUT THE PROS AND CONS WHEN YOU COMPARE THE K9 AND THE BD "CHOPPER".
I CAN'T AFFORD THE $30k + FOR A NEW K9 . IF I COULD I WOULDN'T HESITATE WITH THE K9. BUT BEING IN THE 18K TO 24K DOLLAR RANGE ALOT oF BD "CHOPPERS" COME INTO PLAY REGARDING AVAILABILITY. I'M DEFINETELY NOT GOING OLDER THAN YEAR 2005. I'VE BEEN EVALUATING THE AVAILABILITY OF USED BD BIKES FOR 2 MONTHS. AND I FOUND SOME NICE PRICES ON THE CHOPPER MODEL. I DON'T WANT TO BUY ANOTHER BIKE FOR 5 YEARS AND THUS I DON'T WANT TO BE DISAPPOINTED.
IS THERE REALLY THAT MUCH OWNER SATISFACTION DIFFERENCE BETWEEN THE TWO.

Is the K9 the way to Go?

thank you, every body has been a great help in my quest to get a BD

You may be surprised to find an 07 K9 in that price range since the 09's are coming out. I test rode a used chopper as well as the K9 and to me they pretty much rode/handled the same (only rode each for about 20 miles so not the best to really get a chance to compare) . Keep your eyes open and you maybe surprised to find a NOS 06-08 K9 in your price range if that is the way you decide to go:flag:

Chopper and K-9 are very similar...They have the same motor and trans...So, with the Chopper being lighter and with less tire to turn its faster...all else equal...

The Chopper has always been referred to as the "industry's best all around chopper" By BDM and most writers who have a review in the rags...I agree with them...Period!

But to each his own...You have to ride each and get what works for you...

I have a 2005 Chopper, the first year for the right side drive. With its 117" engine, 6-speed tranny and lighter weight it will knock out any stock or CVO Harley, other than maybe a V-Rod.

I've test ridden K9's twice now. The only thing the K9 has that my 2005 Chopper doesn't is a 300 rear tire (I've got a 260 Metzeler), a slightly larger but differently configured tank and slightly more ergonomical handlebars.
To each his own, but I'm sticking with my 2005 Chopper...love it!!!

Test ride them both and take a look at all the details and buy what you like.

Both are great bikes, but personnally I like the look of the Chopper a little better. I think the tank on the Chopper is nicer and flows with the bike. I'm not a fan of the flat bottom K-9 tank.

The 300 tire is cool but I think it's a fad as you are seeing tires going in the oppisite direction for size.

Test ride, take pictures, compare and have fun trying to make a choice between two bikes that will both turn a lot of heads!!!

Tall riders seem to prefer the K-9.

Ride em all and see what fits you the best.

Just for my 2 cents, I've ridden both, I own an 07 Chopper. With the 2 1/2 " extended forward controls on mine I prefer it because it handles great with the 250. I'm 6'4" tall and I am very comfortable on my Chopper. Yes the K-9 has a slightly larger tank volume wise which is good but all in all I love my Chopper and I have no regrets whatsoever. Just try to ride them both for as long as you can, be sure which one makes you smile the most and get that one. Either way, your gonna love it. There is nothing like a BDM, Period.

I have a 2005 Chopper. I'm 6'1" and it fits me fine. My previous bike was a softail custom and I wouldn't trade my chopper for anything. It's a nice bike and I like the lines.

Ok, I have an 05 chopper and I have ridden 06 k9. Both are great bikes, its really a personal preference though. K9, 300 rear tire for hardly noticealbe difference in the ride. The K9 seat feels lower to the ground to me and the neck seems to be lower also. The chopper is 8'8" front to back and the K9 is 9'. Both are great bikes.

I am 6'4" sat on both, and found them equally comfortable but slightly different...

I think the lines are a little smoother on the Chop, but liked the 300 rear on the K9 and felt that it just looked bigger...

The Chop handles a little better with the 250, and the extra ground clearance doesn't hurt either.

I love my K9, but wouldn't feel the Chopper is any less of a bike.

How's that for a non-answer... but kinda like asking who would you rather sleep with - Catherine Zeta Jones or Charlize Theron?

Ride both - your opinion is the only one that matters since the issues will the same !!!!!!!!!!

I like both of them but prefered the K9 because of the 300 rear tire. Wish you could get the K9 with the 330. Personal preference...to each his own. Can't go wrong with either.

For long rides ...."Raywood style" my choice would be Chopper ,but for the bar hoppin blast around town ,you can't beat the 300 tire bling!! I love my chopper ...and yet I still feel the 250 tire over ruts in the road .....Bling comes a cost ....worth it in MHO!!!

I purchased an 05 Chopper in Nov. of 05 and have since ridden it over a half dozen times from the midwest to the east coast (just over 1500 miles one way). I have been extremely happy with it. Though not quite as comfortable as my Road King was, I put on 1200 miles in just over 18 hours with no complaints. I teach the MSF riders course and I can manuever the chopper through the exercises (even the 20' box, though this involves dragging the pipes on the right side) better than most of the other instructors can do with their motorcycles and even better than a few can do on the small training bikes.

I have only test ridden the K-9 and it was nice, but it felt like you would be giving up some of the manuevability the Chopper has. So, it comes down to function and fashion and where the line for compromise is. Everyone draws it differently.

I can't complain, other than the typical speedo issues (since cured with the new speedo and bracket) and a front wheel bearing going, the 05 Chopper has run without a whimper.

Hard to beat the Chopper; the guys are right when they say it might have been the best all around chopper. I had an 06 and loved it. Before I bought it I rode the K9 and Chopper. The chopper was much easier to turn (tire) and faster, lighter, and to me more comfortable. I'm 6'1, 205. Personal preference but I loved the Chopper.
