Hey all, I have determined to get from PHX to Salem all non-interstate. Gonna ride US 60 east to Clovis, NM and spend the night. Then east through Plainview, TX (spent a minute there when I was 19 as a youth pastor - have not been back since). Then east on US 70 to McAlester, TX. After that, it's a bit murky but intentions would be to get to Clarksville, AR for the night avoiding I-40. From there via mountain roads up through Mountain Home and Hardy to Salem (lots of old haunts for me along that route from the days my family was in Cherokee Village). Anybody riding in to Salem from that vicinity and want to join up? The stay in Clarksville is flexible. I just have Hilton Honors points for free stays at Hampton Inns - as is my cross country habit flying solo.

If your going to Mountain Home your not far from going through Fayetteville AR. We will be working at the farm that weekend. Call me before you hit the road.

Cherokee Village! Wow that’s a name I haven’t heard in a long while. When I grew up in Streator Illinois we went to Cherokee Village nearly every year for summer vacation. Lots of great memories on Lake Thunderbird. My parents had always planned on retiring there and own a piece of property there. My Grandparents lived in Mountain Home.Sounds like a great road trip Rick!

Kinda similar story with my Great Aunt for every summer trips from Indians. My Mom and my sister did actually move there later and my brother for a short time. They lived there when I moved to TX and were a frequent destination.

Rick ,if you want to retrace the earlier route you can plan a night stop here as you know the way around here and light is always on. I’ll be baby sitting Jonathon but we’ll make time for whatever you need ,plus you get to see buff.
