I had an oil line near the tank rub through on another line at 5K. Check the fittings and lines very carefully.

I check all the lines and all the fittings at the tank, at first it looked like the fitting on the left... I cleaned every thing real good, started the bike and just watched for oil, the oil is coming from the left side of the tank at the bottom where the rubber mount and the tank meet... I just cant see any thing else beside the tank there???? Next question where can i get a oil tank from and does the back tire have to come off or can i sneak it threw the top?? And im from Detroit Mi

You don't have to get a new tank. Have a good welder Tig weld it for you. If I were welding it, I would grind away a small area of paint where the leak is, then put wet rags around the area to limit the heat effected area, then touch up the paint when finished.

This sounds exactly like what I just went through. I had the oil pool up around the rubber grommet on the left side between the tank and frame. Thought for sure the return line fitting was leaking. Tried a different fitting, teflon tapes, pipe dopes...nothing would stop the leak. I finally took the tank out, bought caps for the three fittings, filled the tank with kerosene and sat it on my workbench and watched it. After a few minutes I see kerosene leaking around the fitting but not from the threads. It was coming from above the fitting!! It was coming from the weld around the tank bung. I ground off the paint and sprinkled some baby powder on the tank and found three pinholes. Took the tank to a local welding shop and they ran two beads around the top part of the weld and it was finally fixed. I would have never thought the oil would be seeping through the paint without any damage to the paint. Took me three weeks of screwing with it but now it's fixed.

The tank is a pain in the a** to get out. I had mine in and out 6 times so I got good at it!! Feel dumb for even typing that but each and every time I reinstalled it I thought for sure I had the leaking fitting fixed. I even went so far as using JB Weld on the threads to seal my fitting. Thank God it never worked as advertised and welded the threads to the tank. I would have never imagined that oil could seep out from under the paint and clearcoat without staining or lifting it. I guess that shows the quality of BDM's paint.
Glad you got it figured out and got it fixed. Ride safe. :2thumbs:
