Right side swingarm bolt

This problem is unique to Mastiffs. the belt runs between the side plate of the frame and the side plate of the swingarm. If your bike has the side plates next to one another and the belt running behind the swingarm side plate, it's no problem.

I suspect that torque and hard acceleration are the contributing factors to this type of issue.
but as you can see in my pics... mine runs the same way.. unless I'm misunderstanding you.

Your belt runs between the frame side plate and the swingarm side plate.
On other softail type bikes the belt actually runs behind the swingarm sideplate and the sideplates are close together (like the left side).

Since the belt runs between the two plates, when under load torque tries to pull the swingarm forward. As stated elsewhere, there is a big open space
inside the adjustable spacer. The forces will cause the bolt to bend and the outside side plate will twist out in relation to the forward edge of the plate.

Rapid deceleration (panic stop) will reverse the forces and cause the frame side plate to flex the opposite direction and bow out at the rear of the plate and bow in at the front.

In either case, the side plate can bend right at the pivot bolt hole (the weakest part of the side plate).

I'll see if I can find a picture of a bent frame to post in case you're still misunderstanding what I'm talking about!

fix

talked to dealer other day, he said bigdog is sending them special tool to straighten frame. he asked them about frame stress on welds , powder coat cracking. apparently bigdog has had many of these bend in 05, 06 because they used cheap swingarm bolts, and have investigate this fully and no weld or other damagge occurs when repaired.
