I checked all the wires int he plugs with the wire plus, really didn't even see anything that looked sucpicious . I plugged it back up a few days ago, and got a chance yesterday for a short ride... It starts up great !
It ran great for almost 15 miles but as I got on the interstate to go back home running 70ish it barely sputters again,,,, the tach went completely out until I was almost home,, the speedo acted up,, but not as bad as before,,,, right before I got home it sputtered more.. When I got home I turned it off,, and it re starts with no problem. It sits until this is corrected. It is too hot to push this old dog, even though this old dog can push it!!!!

As much as this sounds electrical.....check your fuel cap.... I had a similar problem, coughing dieing then barely running, then stalled re-started and tach blinking, felt like a short out situation..... After sitting a couple days started fine and acted up when warm.

It turned out to be vacumm lock due to the vent cap not working. Removed the center vent section of cap and no issues since.

I will certainly try that and that even seems like a much easier solution , and one I would have never thought of either...

Thank you very much and thank you everyone,,,

possibly a good thing it isn't running as well as normal right now, the area we live in is under thunder storm warning , and it is raining here ,,,I would have gotten "Wet",, our grass needs it ..( the green stuff in peoples yards they cut regularly, not the stuff that made Zig Zag famous, and possibly my hair gray :D)

You know I was frustrated yesterday , thankful to makes it home as I should have been, but today is a different day, a new day, a good day, a day the Lord has made for us all. I have a new drive and determination about figuring this thing out and getting the old dog barking without a stutter. I sincerly appreciate everyone's help in getting this corrected too. When I figure it out, when it happens to someone else hopefully it will be a quick and easy fix for them.

I hate to ride and not feel confident about the machine I am riding because of electrical gremlins. I like to go and not worry if my Dog or Harley is going to bring you back or not. If you installed your own Wire-Plus and did not solder each of the connectors, I would pull the back bone and power harness out sit on my work bench and go through each and every connector. Re-check the crimp and add solder to it then heat shrink all the connectors. It may take some time to do, but at least you will know that all the connectors are properly connected and not arching with other wires or grounding out. That is what I did with my Wire Plus and it's going on three years now without an electrical incident. If you need connectors I have some that I can send you.

My two pennies :D

Ray, this is what happen to me last week Tuesday. I was goiong to pay some bills on the dog and it was hot outside 92 at that. I'm driving bout 80 on the interstate, bike just shuts down, like someone turned the key off. I coasted to the side and as soon as I stopped I tried to start it and it started. I drove another 2 miles and the dog did the same thing but this time It didn't restart. Luckily one of my employees called me an said he was in the area with his mower equipment and trailer, so he came and picked me up. I was then at least 10 miles from home. When I got the dog home I turned the switch on and nothin came on, everything was dead. Placed the battery charger on the battery while still connected to the bike and head lite, neutral lite and oil lite came on but the started wouldn't turn over , it would just hum. That was a lil' progress, so I continued. I disconnected the battery and placed a slow 2 amp charge on it for 24 hours
and it still would not liteup anything. Lights would only flicker. Battery charger read that the battery was good. I connected the charger again to the bikes cables and everything lit up but starter would turn over not enough current. I went to the battery store and had my battery load tested. Battery could not take a load. As long as it didn't have a load it read ok but as soon as a load was place on it, it was drained.
I purchased a battery with 545 cold cranking amps called an odessy, gauranteed for 2 years with free replacement. Cost $120.00. Several other bike riders were there also with there batteries. The heat played a big role in the breakdown of the batteries. I had just purchased a new battery from Strokers the week before. So I really couldn't believe it was the battery until it was proven to me. Just sayin'

Thanks Tom,, I check all that stuff on the battery too, but hat might be the issue . Jake sent me the wire installation instructions and this weeekend I am going to check two particulat wires that it might be , maybe resolder them, wiggle test all that stuff. Beyond that or after that I will take my battery and get it load tested. It isn't a year old yet. I had to pull the scooter out of the garage earlier today to get he mower out and it starts great. This is my busy time of the year and it is kinda taking the back burner until I get the time to really take time to dig into it when I am not half asleep. Planing on Saturday morning between 3-4 o'clock when everything is quiet and it is a little cooler as well. I was thinking out getting a cam sensor put in it just because seems like a thing to do. When I get into the wireing I need peace and quite. I already think I know the two wires I need to start with , re-do them both, and go from there...

I do really appreciate everyone's input on this , I have patience, and want it done right while I am doing it.

Ray thanks again ,,, !

Found the Problem!!!!!!!

Oh yea!!!!!

Ok After I studyed the installation on the Wire plus until I alkmost have it memorized and the 2004 wiring schematics posted by Shovel cowboy on here until I felt what it was I needed to be looking for , the speedo wires and the tach wires. I also found out and remembered why I quite carrying a sharp knife tooo, blood out of really clean cuts! :D
Anyway I was taking the yellow and green wire tach input and signal wires soldered together and placed back in the harness, :D, and the orange/white wire with the four red wires soldered to it and placed back in the harness :D,, when moving some wires around besides these the lights went out compeltely,, nothing,,!!! Wiggling these wires previously mentioned didn't do it !!!! Ah, but then I saw the 30 amp fuse holder and wiggled it and the lights came back on !!! The second time I wiggled it it came out of the heat shrinked butt connector, where Yes I had crimped it but appartently not hard enough!!!!!

I corrected this problem and even put a touch more solder on the other wires I had already taken apart to check. I also put some liquid bandage on my ankle where the knife fell and pooked me :D

I will get any parts I might need in the future from either Jake @ lowdownchopshop or Lena @ Strokers. Jake was a great help in getting all this done, even this last deal, Jake is highly recomminded by me and my scooter. He sent me the 2004 instructions almost immediatly after I email him for them.It was greatly appreciated too. I found the 2004 wireing diagram shovel cowboy had posted in here, and looked at them until I thought my brain was frying, :D. I really appreciate everyones input getting me to think about things I had yet even thought of too.

Now lets go ride the lawn mower a couple hours, triming included, before the neighbors call the lawn po-po on me !!!!

Thank you Everyone ,,,, Have a great weekend ,,,
God Bless you all !!!!

I waited yesterday until it cooled down a little in the afternoon to take it for the "Test" ride. I rode it about 50 or 60 miles, interstate/ backroads/ traffic ,,,, It did not act up at all. Yep, it feels good to get that confidence back again that you won't be on the side of the road, and I believe that wire off the 30 amp breaker that had possibly shook lose the crimp was my gremlin. I have a tendency to try to plan for the worst and hope for the best and this time it was a simple fix. When I looked at the two solder joints on the wires that seemed to be where the issues should be they seemed soldered fine. They were shrink wrapped & electrical taped just a little for added protection. I took my time when I did the Wire Plus on my scooter and very possibly over killed double checking all the wires that went to the pins. I crimped that wire off the 30 amp breaker but appartently it didn't hold and it has been corrected now. I think it might possibly have a little more Gid-e-up going through the gears. I think it might have had a little hesitation here and there that isn't there anymore. I really appreciate everyone's input on this issue with my scooter, and yes Carlos I got to thinking about redoing the wires and I am going to do it, possibly shorten them a little where everything will lay in the small space a little better, but after I really get time to do it without rushing.

You know I had a dealer that almost to the point of seemed like he was making fun of me installing the Wire Plus on my scooter, and bad mouthed this forum as well. I will be the first to say I don't like wiring anything especially with little tiny wires, I didn't say I couldn't do it , I just don't like to it. I need good lighting, and peace and quite to do it. Jake has the best instructions to do the Wire plus and yes anyone can do it. It seems harder than it really is actually. If you are having any ECH issues change the thing out to the Wire Plus. I had a crimp that came lose, posssibly hit a bump and shook it lose but was still holding enough to get me home. I did burn up my dremel clearing the hole out for the new ignition switch which took more time than wireing it too. You all have a great weekend thank you very much,

Ray
