Tuning problem

I did it when I put the new wiring harness in, but there is still debris...

Still no opinion on my bent manifold?
It is very easy to tweak the manifold either by using the wrong gaskets or by not tighten the bolt evenly. I had to replace the one on my bike because of this issue. You might try laying a flat edge across the runners in several places and see if its tweaked or uneven. The only way to fix the problem is to replace it with a new on, if my memory serves me they cost around $60.
Good Luck

No way to get hold of the correct gaskets in this god foresaken country...

So I will soak my original gaskets in silicone grease, true my manifold with a wooden dowel, reassemble everything and hope for the best...

If that does'nt work, I'm ordering everything new from the states, but hell, I wanna ride my bike...

Just a thought after reading this thread.

Have the ignition coils been replaced when the other ignition components were changed out?

Sometimes when older ignition coils get hot they begin to fail due to the coil winding insulation breaking down and shorting together. When this happens the sparkplug voltage drops to a point where the plugs begin to misfire under compression and can give symptoms like you are seeing.

I'm not saying this is your problem, but you may want to look into this area later and do some coil tests on yours. Back when I work on air-cooled engines we had such a coil tester box.

Hope this helps!

I too had an intake leak on rear cyl - 1 yr old bike - took intake off and noticed a flat spot on edge (not only noticeable to eye but also saw daylight between metal and the gasket). Solution - took a new 2 inch ball off the truck hitch and took my time with some soft taps to re-round the manifold - critical word is soft. Other thing was to make sure it fit the cylinders just right - took a sander to both ends after wrapping tape ie. mm of metal had to come off so it fit the cylinders squarely. good luck

to Big Dog Bro1:

I did'nt change the coil (only thing I didnt change), now what you say is making sense cause when i tested my coil with a meter the readouts were on the low side...

To Zenman: My manifold was quite bent (look at the pictures) I wish i could have bought a new one and new gaskets, but my really hot ex girlfriend is coming over from spain for the weekend, and I really need to get the thing moving, so we'll hope that my makeshift wooden dowel job does the trick... ;-)

Hopefully you can find a shop that could test the coils as opposed to purchasing new ones, not knowing for sure their condition.

Not sure how you checked them, but the OHM meter readings will be very low ?OHMS on the primary side and high ?OHMS on the secondary plug side. The two coils should measure similar OHMS compared to each other. Unfortunately they may not test bad and fail until they get hot.

HOT ex girlfriend? Pics please!

It died again....

Everything went ok for a few days (and yes I was lucky with the super hot ex girfliend), but yesterday, I was coming home from my club at 7 in the morning and it died again, nothing electrical, it just felt like no more gas so I went to reserve but nada...

I'm going to investigate further today, but I have to say, after eliminating the ehc after it died, changing the ignition, curing problems due to debris from the gas tank obstructing the jets in my carb and fixing an intake leak, all in four months of ownership I am becoming a bit frustrated... :-(

Everything works as it should now....

My only possible conclusion is that it might have been vapour lock, I moved my gas filter away from the jugs, we'll see...
