Where Has Sugar Bear Gone With My Money?

Has anyone had any dealings with Sugar Bear recently? I put down a deposit for a springer front end for my K9 4 years ago. There have been a few conversations, but no product has been delivered. It appears I am just out $1500. I thought that someone as notable as he is, would have more honor than this.

Any tips on how to handle this would be appreciated.

Yeah, I even volunteered to drive down to his place to pick it up.. to save money.

Despite this, he is still kinda a motorcycle hero of mine and I wouldn’t mind meeting him. I really admire his work.

He does do nice work....when he does it. I think 4 yrs is plenty of time to build you a custom one off piece. I prolly coulda done it in that amount of time and I have no idea how to build one. Its a shitty place to be in for sure but I dont think anything less then a courtroom will get ur $$ back. Some people just shouldnt operate a business.

You're not alone - I sent him 4,000 dollars in Oct 2020 for a down payment on a bare frame and front end and have not received it yet. He has communicated with me several times a year explaining the delay but still no product.

Guys name is Dan Morris. Originally out of Florida but looks like he is in California now. He is working out of his home and is the only employee.

I am in California as well, I had talked to him and he had said his little town in the mountains was experiencing floods and it affected his workshop. I was never rushing him, I just wanted a timeline.. or I can’t make one for your bike.. or having problems getting my parts chromed.. or something.

It has just been radio silence. I even gave him an out, to just Venmo me back my deposit and still nothing. I was worried about his age or health, but he was able to attend Surgis and hang out there. Someone had said that they thought he was getting a house there.

I have half a mind to fly to Sturgis and confront him there in the middle of his peers and embarrass him and demand my money. It wouldn’t be hard to find him there either. If anyone else that got taken wants to do this, let me know and maybe we can confront him enmasse.

Your not too far from Springville, 2.5 hrs according to Google. Tell him he was recommended to you by a friend and you need to stop by his shop for an estimate on a front end. Of course you don't tell him who you are until you are at his shop. What happens after that is up to him. At least he will know your not letting him off the hook. $1500 is probably covered under small claims court if you can't meet eye to eye.
