Need info about this bike.

My mothers friend passed away and left her some bikes this is one of them. I was wanting to know the year and specs also what the value you would be once we get it cleaned up and started. Shes had a couple people try to buy it as is and i feel like they offered way to low of a number. I just want to try and get her what its worth. Thanks

I believe that it would probably clean up fairly nicely , which would raise the value quite a bit. Post the numbers that are stamped on the neck and someone here can give you the year and model numbers. As for the value, someone here will be able to tell you a fair price. I hope she isn't needing to sell it tight away because there are always people that will low ball the price just because it isn't all clean and shiny. It looks like a diamond in the rough, and I'd bet nobody has offered what it's really worth

Its definitely a K9 because it has a 300 rear tire. I'm going to guess it's a 2006. That was the first year of the K9. The engine code starts with a "F", which means it was made in 2005. That could just be the delay between S&S making the engine block and it being installed in a new 2006 K9. In 05 and 06, BDM assembled their own S&S engines in the plant, instead of pre-assembled S&S engines. There is an interesting note here. In 05 and 06, BDM used TP rocker boxes, which are known to cause valve guide wear occasionally. The owner of this bike had the rocker boxes changed to S&S boxes. That is a good thing. The engine is a 117, with a Baker 6-speed transmission. As far as price, that will depend a lot on mileage. Once cleaned up, it could be a very nice find.

I would agree with chubs. People are going to try and get something for nothing. Do you know how long it has been sitting, been stored inside garage or something? Don’t just get a motorcycle battery and try to start it. Might do more harm than good. There are steps you must take not to screw up the bike. And not just any bike battery will work either. Take your time and people here will help. Might just be a diamond in the ruff. I know I am not that far away as is Knothead and a few others that you can trust that would be willing to help

Not all of them had tp rocker boxes. It’s RSD but the rims don’t look like 06. Yes do provide VIN from neck. And DONT just get a hose out and start washing. There are things that shouldn’t be soaked with water. I would recommend talking to a wrench like Knothead before you do anything.

Looks to be a 06...bike is going to need alot of attention to get it back to what it is worth...that up to you and your mom...

People are going to beat you up on it until it gets back into shape...here is some of the reasons

Front and rear tire because they are more than 10 years old as I can tell..but anyway here is a list of stuff needed to get a good dollar for it because the buyer is going to want to ride it

503.00 rear tire
194.00 front tire
60.00 in bearing for wheels
100.00 in fluids and filter
135.00 deka battery
70.00 fork seal kit
320.00 new speedo because its missing the button and full of crap by now.

1384.00 so far...

Pull the seat off and show us what type ehc is on it...hopefully its stock and not jacked up...but if you need a new ehc that cost another 630.00 for it so now.we are at 2000.00.

Either way there is profit for your mom at this point. But you might spend 2000.00 and get 5000.00 more for it than you would had...its just a choice from here what you and your mom want to do honestly..

Everything fixed the bike will bring 8500.00 to 12,500.00... so there is possibility for her to make some money but right now just like it sets with the unknowns it wont bring anymore than 5000.00 tops. But I'm sure everyone going to offer 2500 to 3500 for it.

With that said if you want to bring it to west Tennessee which looks to be 5 hours away I would be glad to check the bike out and help you get it fixed.

You seem to be doing this to help your mother. You don’t seem to be knowledgeable about bikes. But if you’re going to help her get it fixed and want to take it to Knothead then rent a trailer or if you pay for my gas I would be willing to take it to him for you. I can assure you that Knothead knows his shit, is more than fair on the price, and can be trusted. He completely rebuilt my 08 K9 I bought a couple of months ago. Whatever you choose to do good luck and know that people on here are willing to help.

Well said Snuffy—you’re a class act Amigo. As is Knothead, who is honest and works for less than a dealership.
Getting it renovated would probably maximize the $$ returned, but a significant hassle for one who has no interest in bikes.
If Rustjacob just wants to flip the bike, take the highest lowball offer—but be sure to post here on the Forum because we know Big Dogs, and guaranteed to have members who would have keen interest in a barn find. They can do the work too. Post the sale of the bike and list an email address to send bids Back to you.
In thinking through it, I’d presume the difference in money returned to your Mom between revitalizing and selling as is would only be a couple or few thousand. Maybe not worth the time and effort.
Your call—but that should be a fine looking K9 at some point. Hope we get to see a finished product. Always did like that paint scheme.

I agree totally with everything you said...its a choice now if he wants to put more into to maximize the dollars..

Great idea, if him and his mom choose to go this route and sell it here on the forum...that would get the max dollars for it here I'm sure...hell I will bid on it without a doubt and I'm sure several more will too just like it sets right now....I have bought several like this...I have basically got my money back on some and lost on others...but at the end of the day the bike is back on the road where it belongs so I consider that a win either way

Those pictures almost made me cry!!! Wtf me over. You would be lucky to get $1g for it like that…. So much time and money is going to need to be invested to bring that back to life. Terrible fucking shame! Good God! Unreal

All true Mick. Does appear to be situational tho. Owner was probably sick for quite some time and the bike(s) were the last thing on their mind. I am just thankful that this bike has a chance to live again. With all this being said, Mick is absolutely right. It’s going to take some work and money to get this bike back. You will have a nice bike in the end but if you’re not going to keep it you will be lucky to break even. I just hope one of us on here gets a chance at it because I know that it will be done right, and kept going for a long time.

I bet a good wash, wax n polish will bring her purty back. The rest of the usual maintenance may put her back on the road. Looks like a thick coating of dust hiding a gem.

I would be more concerned with the mechanical & electronics more than appearance, even though that looks to be extensive to me as well. Not sure how long that’s been collecting dust but it’s been a minute. That bike is clearly a case of hope for the best but expect the worst. I see lots of work & $$$$ involved by whoever has to deal with it. Of course I completely agree that getting it to Knothead would be a great starting point just to see how bad it really is. I wish them the best of luck in bringing that Dog back to life.

use Big Dog Vin decoder to see what u have.
Vin shows you what u have, year of build, model and type.
Seems like u have to invest a dollar for get a good sale.
some wash wax, polish and ellbow grease will be necessary too
for check out the hidden champion.
