Still have a no start problem with my '04 Chopper, but many thanks to Dakotabos for his help in trying to get it started.
Does anyone know of a reputable shop or preferably a freelance mechanic in NJ who can help with what I think is a problem with my brand new EHC? Or, does anyone know if the EHC can be tested while it's not on the bike?
Thanks, Bill

What was going on with your bike that lead you to replace the EHC?

Dennis

PS And to answer your other question, yes, the EHC can be tested out of the bike but I can't tell you who could do that besides BDM and maybe Night Train...

Moe-
Thanks I'll check out that thread. Can you send me some names? I'm in the Bridgewater area. Thanks

Dennis-
Thanks for the info - it helps to know it can be tested on its own. I replaced the EHC because I was getting no electric at all but the battery is brand new and the connections were fine.

If nothing else I'm sure Moe will ride up to help out :2thumbs: :2thumbs: Did I just say that?:lol:
I'm no mechanic - but definitely know how to "party". Bridgewater - My son plays ice hockey there for the Bridgewater Bears and am up there just about every weekend. Let's russel up a couple of NJ folk and fire up that pup. Just like GAS does on occasion party at Bill's garage - I'll keep watching while everyone else does the work -:lol::lol:

Any volunteers (I'm in)? Kidding aside, send me a pic of your EHC, if its similar to the "current" 07-08 bikes I can ride up with one. I got enough stuff to build a bike thanks to all my mods - let me know:lol::lol:

That's what this one is, the 18 light, it just has the adapter on it for the 04, so maybe it looks different.

I am still a want-a-be but I live in the
Bridgewater area. I did the demo rides at black dog in pa and do not claim to know very much but I help hold the tools or something. If nothing else I can meet some of the members.

Bill,
Kidding aside I am mechanically “sound” have NOT yet earned my stripes and do not claim to be a guru, but can certainly hold my own. That being said when it comes to electrical – I am CLUELESS. So I will follow your lead and that of those on the forum. When it comes to the EHC itself, the fact that you say it is the same as the 18 LED (but with an adapter) I take your word for it and we can definitely give it a try. But we should proceed with CAUTION (I THINK there’s more to this than an adapter). NightTrain – somebody HELP, shed some light here…will this EHC work with a ’04?
So here it is – I have a PARTY :2thumbs::2thumbs: I need to get to this Saturday, so can't exactly stay for a beer :lol: but will swing by the rink (BridgeWater Sports Arena) between 8:30pm and 9:30pm. If you can meet up there, you are welcome to try the EHC. PM me and let me know along with your cell #. Thanks Staffy
Mike, welcome to join in.

Damn - all that beer, well it won't go to waste.
I really appreciate the offer but until I can figure out if the new one is bad I don't want to run the risk that something on the bike is making it go bad and the same thing will happen to yours. I think I'll take my EHC to Big Dog first and get it tested, then see where to go from there. I'll keep you posted - really appreciate it!
I guess the question really is - how many Big Dog owners does it take to screw in a light bulb? (If I knew how to put those smiley faces in there would be one here)

If I had the time I'd come up there in a min, it's not too hard to figure out if it's the EHC or not. Trouble is I'm working in Norristown all weekend then leave for AZ for 2 weeks on Wed. You still haven't posted what the actual problem is though. Is it stalling? Will the bike start? Does it turn over?

I replaced the EHC with the updated version which has the adapter for the '04. The reason I replaced it was I got no electricity at all to anything. I put the new one in and now all I get is the tail lights to come on and stay on no matter what button gets pushed. The lights that come on on the EHC are as follows: #1 "power up" stays solid, #'s 2&4 "lo and hi beam" flash very fast but will go out when disconnected, #15 "controller on" is green and flashing, #16 "power" is amber and flashing. The thunderheart ignition does not light up ever. The only thing that does work is the rear brake light. I've gone through the steps of seeing which light comes on when you push certain buttons, none other than the lights just mentioned ever come on no matter what. Those lights come on and stay on. I've also checked and rechecked every connection and everything seems fine. My one question is - what powers up the ignition? Also, you mentioned you knew some mechanics - any around here?

Hey Goliath, I'm a NJ brother that somehow got stuck in the south a couple of years ago, but that's another story, lol! PLEASE, PLEASE, listen to me! Do not invest one more red penny in that EHC or any of that electrical system associated with it. Get the Wire Plus module! You will never, ever have any peace until that devil possessed item is removed from the bike! Take it from another NJ brother! It has to be done, believe me, I had electrical issues that went beyond any type of logic or reasoning that is possessed by mankind. Got rid of the EHC, now I have a motorcycle. I cannot be emphatic enough about what I have just said!

X-I would agree, but I still need to find the underlying cause that is making this happen.I appreciate the advise tho.

Mike, OK have sent you a PM and we can talk tomorrow. Now before that happens, check out this post...I realize your bike is an '04 but you are running a "CURRENT" EHC, not sure how that works but lets leave it at that. In following the thread see if the '03 wiring posted by "Bikers Dream" is similar to yours. If not PM Bikers Dream, he appears to be a new member/dealer who is extremly HELPFULL :2thumbs::2thumbs: and hopefully he will get you a copy of the '04 wiring. Sure to simplify things then - seems like you have got a pretty good handle on things so far.....but for the diagram. Talk to you soon.
