Why so much of a difference in price $450-$1200+. Thanks Mike
I would guess labor. I've seen shops now with signs in them stating "$95 per hour" for this. Why so much of a difference in price $450-$1200+. Thanks Mike

Right here at my local HD dealer!!!Wow $95, that's crazy. I will be charging close to $60 when I get the shop up and running in the next month or so.... I hope That is less than the other shops are charging in this area. I can not imagine charging $95 an hr and expecting to have a lot of business:loony:
With all the guppies out there that are afraid to damage their image status bikes, $95 in the NE is easily justifiable. Dont short change the price of experienceWow $95, that's crazy. Mike,Is this what the tranny looks like behind the inner primary. Is this the bolt that can come loose in these models. What was your symtoms you where having when this happened. I get gear catching or grabbing will still have torque but sounds bad when shifting into 4th gear. I am going to look into the tranny and look at the shift forks. Thanks for your input and like to hear what you have done. thanks Mike
Gee ouch $$$!! I have no problems going into any gear up or down just a gear meshing or misalignment issue. Called Baker and explained he said the same thing bigdogtech01 said look at the shift forks and the poss. countershaft bolt. I will get into this weekend and see what I will find. Post later.Mike,
The bike was actually on the Dyno at the shop when this happened. He said he could not get it to go into 1st, 2nd or 3rd. But before that happened I was having problems getting it into 2nd on high RPM's. So what they did was replace the gear assembly which only comes that way and reinstalled and put in the new Thrust washer that was on a service bulletin for a while. But it was 10 hours of labor at $85 an hour. Not cheap!
Well thats what eventually happened to me was that the countershaft walked on me which explains how it got stripped. Maybe you can catch it before it gets to this point. :2thumbs:Gee ouch $$$!! 10 hrs is way to much, when I was with the dealer in Rochester, NY we would charge 6 hrs with the transmission in the bike, 10 wow sorry to say they took advantage of youMike,

Oh man, now I am looking at the pictures just after I sent you the PM. Yeah it looks like you have lost some threads into the countershaft. If only the hole went deep enough into the shaft you might be able to save it by sending a good tap threw it to try cleaning the threads. But the hole bottoms out inside so this is not even an option. Sorry to say it but it looks like you may have to put a new countershaft assy. in Can you look into the end and see if the threads are all messed up? Inside the CS? That is not a cheap piece to buy, I want to say it is around $400 retail? Have to see if BDM or Baker has one in stock along with all the bearings, retainer clips and seals.Update -Thanks to bigdogtech01 has helped me find the problem -He recommended that I take a look at the countershaft bolt was (sb1090) backing out see the pics. This bolt is inbetween the innerprimary and the baker tranny on the left side of bike. This was the squeeling I had heard and the gear grabbing in third and above. I will keep moving ahead by getting the upgrade deep well washer and new bolt & seal. If you have the same year bike this might be an item you need to check if you have your primary outer and inner off. Kudos to bigdogtech01!!! Thanks Andrew!!!
Andrew(bigdogtech01) I took an 3/8 bolt(new) and tried the threads on the countershaft and had no problems seating the bolt and threading it into the countershaft all the way in. It was very solid and did not move at all when all the way in. I will take off the tranny cover and shift drum and inspect the shift forks and shift rod. I drained all the tranny fluid and no metal shavings so I will clean out if any in the tranny. I will call BD and order the countershaft bolt and couner sink washer and the seals for putting putting back the inner primary.Oh man, now I am looking at the pictures just after I sent you the PM. Give me a call today if you want.
Good, sounds like you should be able to run the Countershaft then, thank God for that huh? You may need a trans. rebuild in the future, but for now, put it back together and run it..... after making sure the shift forks and rod are in good shape. Did you get that clutch hub shim yet that i sent you?Andrew(bigdogtech01) I took an 3/8 bolt(new) and tried the threads on the countershaft and had no problems seating the bolt and threading it into the countershaft all the way in. Yep got the shim- Thanks a bunch wow smaller than I thought. I will be calling a dealership on Tues. (most are closed Mondays) to order the countershaftbolt and deep well washer and seal. Can't order directly from BDM must be thru a dealership. Again will post with results.Good, sounds like you should be able to run the Countershaft then, thank God for that huh?
