Wires & LED Connector Problem

Energy One
Had a friend tell me Big Dog sells a connector kit for about $15.00 and yes I will purchase a LED tool next time. Still cheaper than $210.00 the dealer wanted to install it. Thanks Ray, Gas, and Hoat and others for the help.

You might ask your dealer if he has some of the plugs and pins in stock. The local one here keepss them and sells them by the piece.

These plugs are a royal PIA even with the tool, the good part is the new wire harness was only about $20. Yep I broke one and it was a loose fit that just didn't give me a warm fuzzy and the new wires are shipped with the plastic connector unattached.

Gas.......From the close up diagram you posted showing the connector, now I can see why I was having so much trouble. Wasn't pushing in the right place. Now it looks pretty simple. I was trying to push it straight out. Had my glasses on but couldn't see it very well. Just another reason getting old sucks. Sure could have used the close up diagram two days ago. One day somebody will be looking for a thread on how to do it and they'll read this thread. I'll take this one for the team. See.....everything happens for a reason. :bang:

These types of connectors are used in the automotive and bike industry so they are pretty common. Its my suggestion that if you are going to do any work at all on your bike that you should get the correct service manual. That being said I think that if you look in most service manuals for harley or bd they have a section on electrical connectors and the like! Good luck on your next project.

I did order a service manual for the 2006 K9.. Ordered it 9 days ago. Still haven't recieved it and got tired of waiting on it and having to look at the boxes my sissy bar kit came in.

Rick, a lot of times you find it on those rotating displays with all the electrical connections on them. Or you can order on line.

Happy New Year,

I know I kep tellin my wife that i had seen it on one of the stores here in town. I noticed it after I had paid the $17 for the BDM part which by the way does not fit the small connectors on your bike. So after driving to 4 different stores I gave up and made my own small connector remover with a piece of spring steel wire and a file. I will pick one up along the way the next time I run across one.

Sometimes those garage made tools work better than the real things. :D
