Engine Sprocket Cover

I am trying to remove the engine sprocket cover but I must be the dumbest guy out here. According to the service manual it is a flat cover but mine seems to go around a cylinder and I can't seem to get it to move. Has anyone else found a way to rotate it and pull it off at the same time. I was headed to a pair of Channel lock filter pliers and decided I would only regret the outcome . Any Ideas would be appreciated .

On the Primary side There are 2 covers and 1 inspection cover . The farthest cover to the back is what would be the Primary Cover where on a Harley you would check the clutch and fill the primary with oil . On a Big dog that is just a decorative cover to nothing. Next moving toward the front of the primary is the inspection cover to adjust the primary chain tension. The next cover moving forward is the Engine Sprocket Cover , It has 2 Allen bolts holding it on. It is only decorative and should come off but there is no access behind it. I am wanting to remove it so I can play around with affixing another cover to it. I don't think I can access it from inside the Primary case as the drawings show it is solid behind the cover. I am starting to think they may have used an adhesive as well as the 2 bolts.

Now I got it :D. On my 06 K9 I removed the two bolts and it came right off. You will not be able to access the cover from the inside of the primary. At least not on a 06.

You can only inspect the primary chain thru the middle cover. The other two as mentioned are there just to fake you out. Ya have to pull the whole primary cover if ya want to see the clutch, the adjustable gear ratio, the flux capicitor and the other magic stuff that is in there. V

Same with me, I removed the two allen head bolts and my cover came off. I put the maltese cross covers on my primary covers. I believe I used a screw driver to pry it off because it did have a rubber adhesive on on the back. The cover is pretty solid.

Thanks to all of you. On my 08 K9 the cover is not a flat piece it wraps around the main case. I appreciate all your help. I will call BigDog and see if they will talk to me. Not had good luck with them talking on the phone. Again thank you

Talked with someone at Big Dog and was told in late 2008 they changed the primary cover because of a change in the engine sprocket and needed more room. The new engine sprocket cover can only be removed by taking the entire primary cover off and unbolting it from the inside. I will order up a new primary gasket and then let you all know what I find. If I figure out how to post a picture on a reply I will take some shots and include them. Again thanks to all.

What they did was go to a "compensator style engine sprocket" vs just a 1 pc sprocket. The main way to tell the difference is by the front "fake" round cover. If you post a pic would could tell ya what ya got just by lookin at the cover. A bit of a side angle photo would be best. And yes as they told you they did make this change. It was listed in the 09 lineup on all new bikes but the Ridgeback. V

They must have did this on the later 08s because mine has the fake cover. Good to know. I don't see this mentioned in the 2008 service manual which is strange.

As far as I know its still a fake. I did'nt know they did it in either. Its listed in specs in 09 on all but Ridgeback.
