EHC replacement

Energy One
$550 with free continental US shipping.
That is a fixed dealer price by Electronik so don't shoot the messenger.

Axel indicated that he was thinking of having 2 US distributors but I am going to try and make it work for him so he only needs one....:D

Typically the breaker would separate a circuit from the source in the event of a short etc.
Hence "bat" - "aux" although I think it would be better marked as "bat" - "load" but I digress.
So thats how they stamped their breakers.
Since they did not make them specifically for our BD setups we then have to do a work around for the charging system.
I think they should have explained the proper connection sequence in the BD manual though.
I would imagine if we had 10,000 of them made we could probably have them stamped "bat" - "vr" in the correct connection sequence...lol
Hey Curtis I found this little nugget tucked away in the manual tonight. Second paragraph Confirms our thinking. Along with your comment VR should have it's own internal protection from Battery

VR connected to BAT or gold post
battery connected to AUX, silver post.

Yep also confirms the shop the previous owner paid to install the PDM fucked it all up. They just read the breaker, BAT to battery...

Oh and I'm about to order everything else that blew out too. VR and tach ring, so order incoming in a few

Why nothing works anymore :(

I find it hard to understand why axel's price on ebay was $475......he sold it to us as members for $290 WITH SHIPPING....and now it goes to $550.....all I can say is I'm glad I got mine before all the price gouging started.

Tru-dat, the RIP 2 and ESC is only $125 more for the proven TH and extra wiring harness's, but hey what do I know:willynilly:

Can't please everybody and everybody wants everything to be as cheap as possible.
Axel has done R&D, is now making them in batches, is conversing with a BD shop in Germany regarding pricing and has decided this is what he wants the price to be on a regular basis. As a dealer I can't even get them for what he initially sold them to some of the members here for.

Like I said, don't shoot the messenger.
Send him a PM and ask him why.

I just don't understand why on post 91 and post 145 of this thread, you said you would not consider this unit being a viable alternative until several had been in the field for an extended period of time with no issues. What has changed since then?

Education by Axel both here and through PMs.
Axel's willingness to warranty the EHC for 2 years speaks volumes about his belief in his capabilities and his product.
I've been riding and working on BDs since 2003.
I have always been an advocate of the EHC, in its last form before they went under, and was dissapointed when they reopened and were not going to continue using it.
I spent quite a bit of time studying in an effort to see if I could do something with it myself before day to day business overrode that effort.
Any time someone comes along and starts throwing things around I'm skeptical at first.
I've been educated better and now see what it can be worth for many out there who don't have the technical skill to do what many are doing with the RIPs etc. I deal with so many customers on a daily basis and many of them are just begging for a simpler fix.
So here it is.
I'm also a business man in all this and since Axel stands behind his product with a 2 year warranty I can't bring myself to just stand to the side and watch an opportunity flow past me.
If you have the technical skill and desire then doing it another way is always there for people.
You see it all the tme with those who decide to upgrade their 03 with a TH module but do all the wiring themselves while others prefer the simpler route of using a kit that WSW has put together. This is really no different.
No one is forcing anyone to spend their money on anything. The customer makes that decision. If I can offer more viable choices then I will.

Like I said before I didn't set the price. I was offered the opportunity and told what the details would be.
If the price upsets you then you should go to the source.

Now I have an RIP kit to finish installing in an 04 Boxer so KA OUT.

Hm, it´s interested to see the discussion about the price. I have put 2 EHC as "test balloon" on Ebay for a cheaper price, cause I need 1 or 2 more dealers at the US East side. I got some dealer responses from Ebay and still figure it out. I have let some EHC to Forum members for the manufacturing price what is somewhere between 260,- and 290,- USD include material, work etc. An EHC is no rocket science and it is easy to copy, cause you got all the infos and schematics In my postings. It is a bit material inside (with hell expensive d-sub) and about 2 hours work. I will not be able to sell the EHC for a long time with only changing money. So, I´ll need to add a prit profit for me. Unfortunally I live here in Germany and the most EHC need to sended to US. One or two EHC can be sended via DHL, but bigger quantites need to be sended via UPS or Fedex due to the custom paperwork etc what is not really cheap. So, you can add about 15 % for transport, custom office fee etc and let´s say about 10 % in case of warranty, cause we don´t know yet anything about long term performance. We just have the experience of the old original EHC.

I decided to sell the EHC only to a few workshops in US where I believe that these guys know what they do ( like Curtis ! ) and have the equipment to check electrical things at the bike. I have not contacted the big US distributors who also sell to the smaller dealers and workshops, cause this will increase the price at 30 %. I also don´t like to sell it to companies with a big showroom and good looking and smelling sales girls (nothing against...) but with a not trained workshop stuff. I believe, the price would be ok in the way that everybody is happy. It might happen that the price will decrease a bit in the future if the quantities are gettig higher and when we found out that the long term performance is good and I don´t need to cover to many warranty issues.

However, I think that I made a fair calculation and I believe, I don´t will drive a golden Ridgeback in the future ;-) I hope it would be ok...

All the best!
Axel

Axel Yes you need to make a profit, the price sounds fair to me. As I said before take your time and get it wright. You did a lot of R&D and if it is a well built reliable part worth every penny. Thanks for all your time and research that you put into this. :D You did offer it at your cost to us first. Some of us took you up on that offer. I'm glad I did, now only time will tell.
Thanks again.

Just worth noting for some newer members. Set prices for units isn't new in the MC industry. Wires Plus did the same thing to their dealers. If you guys saw the installation How-To on that install it would make your head spin, I have an old printout it's about 50 pages I had it in a 3-ring binder during the install that I did on my 2004 (still running like a top). Just think for most of us, that was our first look at the Big Dog Electrical system, it was pretty wild ride for most of us. Cutting an soldering all 50 wires, 1 by 1...

all the units we have now are a piece of cake compared to that and that Wires Plus was $675 or there about and you needed a new keyswitch another $45. Not to mention the witchdoctor you needed to hire for the day to give you good voodoo.

It was a real pain in the ass for some of us that thought all 12 volt systems were made up of 2 wires:) one red and one black:D. I still am amazed that I got it all together and in the right order. Never again.
I am amazed when I turned it on everything worked as it should. Oh man you had to figure out which pin number they were. Red wire? OK which one there is 15?
