EHC replacement

my setup will work , in the instructions it does state 2005-2006 recall notice but recommended for all big dog motorcycles. I just happened to come across it when I was researching when I bought my bike and before I was a member on here and noticed mine didn't have it so I swapped it out, I'll post a link for the part but as Curtis stated I guess the one I'm using was phased out for another circuit breaker type setup so see what he says

Thanks bro..

Yes

I should really just call them a ShortStop, as most do, but its just like saying "BandAid".
The Shortstop breaker, when connected properly, will protect the Battery and electrical system.
With the VR connected to the brass lug side if the VR goes bat shit on you then it will trip the breaker instantly thus protecting the system.
I did some real world testing and found that while the breaker will trip in both directions it only trips instantly in one direction and that is when the overload is applied to the brass lug side first. If it is applied to the silver lug side first it would take up to 2 seconds to trip and that was only with the 25 amp breaker. The 40 amp breaker would trip instantly if the overload was applied to the brass side but I felt insecure leaving the overload on the silver side for more than 3 seconds, I was afraid it would ruin the battery I was using for testing, and it still had not tripped.

So having said all of the above the reality may be that the fuse is probably the best route since in the end BD was starting to use this:

Cleaner, more compact, water proof and vibration resistant but might not fit every model and year.
That's a fancy fuse thing. I like it when did Big Dog use those?

I'm with ya Curtis fuse is just easier. My thought with with the breakers also it's just not intuitive either and it's just too easy to hookup wrong.

You up and running with the RIP kit yet?
Yep it's all done. Just got my new braille battery back from warranty in the mail last night. Gonna toss that in this afternoon.

As far as form fit an function the wiring has been done for a week.

I understand that your in the process of a few upgrades there, but there's no excuse for the dust on the frame under the EHC :oldnono: :panic:
Kevin it looks like you need to make a road trip for show n tell on detailing, Rotty is slacking off:smash: :oldlaugh::chopper:
This is going to take longer than I thought. After 4 hours got the front wheel, forks, fender, handle bars and tank done. Then I took another look at the motor and said I need to take a break. I could use some help. I riding tomorrow even if it's not all polished. I will do the back wheel and just wipe down the motor. I need a steak and a beer.:rolleyes::p

This is BS, weather the job big or small, do it right or not at all,:whoop:wax on wax off :oldlaugh:

By the way, to clean up the fins on the heads, wrap a paint stick with a rag and spray it with WD-40 and rub it thru them. Don't soak them like someone else did, he thought his motor was on fire when it got hot from it burning off:oldlaugh:

LMAO!! Love this forum!! ...Axel, Ker, & Curtis: Bike is up and running again, Axel's new EHC (58) fixed the issue with the bike full on (with the key sitting on my polishing chair!). (Adding my 2 cents since I was busy and didn't get to chime in) WORTH EVERY BIT OF $550.00, THANK YOU AXEL for the production, dissemination, follow-up & updates! OK, back to working on my freakin' Ark! Only 26 more days of rain here in S.C. PA...

Axel: As for the install - I wasn't as smart as DentDude and measured the holes. From the instructions I assumed the pre-existing holes to be drilled out for the new EHC were in the right place, so I simply drilled them out as instructed - only to find the mounting plugs on Axel's unit were about 3/4 of an inch narrower. Took a good bit with the dremel and drill bits to accommodate, but a few nice, shiny fender washers to replace the washers that came with Axel's unit covered that right up. Another thing, the pre-existing holes were too close to the front of the battery tray (front tire/handlebars side of tray), so I had to bore it out towards the back. After I got my new EHC to fit in the holes, it was another 20 minutes trying to get the bolts to find a groove and thread in, NO LUCK!! I finally removed the rubber cushion washers and cut about a 2 mm off of them and they fit nicely on the first hand turns then snugged up nicely. (NOT BITCHING!! Beyond happy this was available and fixed my problem, just offering advice in case anyone else with an 05' Ridgeback gets one.) Thanks again Axel!

Glad to hear your up and running neighbor,:whoop: I was wondering how you were making out, didn't hear anything from you in a couple days.
I'm happy Axel's unit fixed it, I was thinking we needed to do a little more trouble shooting had this not fixed it. :old2:
Maybe next week when it warms up I'll have to take a ride over and check it out:chopper::old2:

Ok thought it had to be the cam sensor again? But that did not explain why the head light stopped working? While trying to check cam sensor I could hear sizzling (not good) then I saw bubbling from the new EHC. Quick pulled the fuse. Now what?
