Bike shuts off while crusing

DR BULLDOG

DR BULLDOG
My 04 Bulldog is shutting down wile cruising down highway and will restart by switching key to off position and back to on position bike is started and lights on
Please Help Donny

Mine used to do so as well. I found that my issue was in the spark plug wires. Sorry I don't have to correct terms. But not the end that goes to the spark plug but the other end.. Coil? It was broken and wasn't getting good contact

My 04 Pit did the same. My battery was causing the plug on the EHC to wiggle and lose connection momentarily. Added the correct battery strap and issue went away. Hope this helps....?

Loose battery cables... Easy check.
Coil... Over a hard bump, yes. Not with a keyfob and starts again... check bank account.
The HMAN Hit List:
1. Connector not connected - HMAN found the easy one.
2. Wire out of connector - say the coil wire is one wire not connected we think one wire attached how?
3. Short to ground/signal out of range - we have an H kind of controller module?

You are not saying how long this happens between rounds. Days on end and nothing but miles on the bike is not looking like loose parts, but the controller? So you'd have to run the 1-2 Hit List and get that out of the way none the less. You know it's not short to ground because it comes back on line with a key off, key one clearing the controller's glitch to ground, or lost some sort of bug in that controller design.

Either I finally have read enough of Sven to understand him or I have not had enough coffee this morning. But he is correct!

So, if you don't lose all electronics when the bike quits, because you have a one piece tank, you might want to try loosening your gas cap and see if that helps. Sometimes the tank wont vent correctly due to the cap not venting and being on too tight. If that helps then you need to look into fixing the gas cap or purchasing a new gas cap so it vents the tank properly... Just saying.

If that's the case and it very well could. We have a member who makes killer custom gas caps!

That was my first thought but just turning the key off and back on wouldn't fix it. i'll bet it's a shorted coil wire that has been rubbing the cover and on a good vibration touches the cover.

Actually, if the tank isn't venting and the bike quits, you can turn the key off and then try to re-start, it will restart, but it'll happen again. Don't ask me how I know... The main thing we need to know is, if he loses all electronics. Does all power stay on when the bike quits or does the bike go dark electrically? I didn't see that stated.

At one point (actually many points but I am only addressing one of them) I had intermittent electrical problems and it turned out through general tracking of wires that the ground wire under the tank had not been crimped at the factory and the wire was just lying in the connector and moving around sometimes, enough to break contact.

Hi vet!

I have excatly this problem with my bike. The bike quits while cruising but the bike does not lose elecrtronics. Lights stay on normally etc. That is really annoying. The motor fires up when I turn the key off and re-start quickly. Any idea what could cause this?

My RB did exactly same thing. On throttle side the housing got water in from washing and was shorting out. Loosen/open starter button grip assembly, blow out/dry out and try again. Worked for me
