Got my starter out, easy. It looked just like the picture Franco sent me, jack shaft broke in half.

After removing the battery I unbolted the the two bolts at the rear of the battery tray.

And the one allen bolt in the front.

Took off the small belt guard attached to the clutch cover and unhooked all electrical connections from the starter, unbolted the allen head bolts that hold the starter.

Unbolted the EHC from the battery box but did not unplug, just to give enough room to lift up the battery tray about a inch and a half.

Then there was plenty of room to lift the starter out.

I will use this opportunity to repack my EHC connection.

Not bad, I may do that on my personal bikes form now on.
Of course you did it yourself so if you put it back together and something doesn't work you just cuss at yourself...LOL
If I do that in a shop for a customer and then say the EHC goes bad or something along those lines guess who the customer is looking at expecting you to replace, repair for free cause "You were the last one to touch it".
But great post for Neubes and others that work on their own.

Yes, I see where your coming from Curtis.
I love to work on my own stuff but when it comes to the K9 it's not the tearing apart and putting back together that scares me it's the fucking up the chrome or paint with a wrench. Or doing something stupid like dropping a ratchet or the starter on the pipes. Just have to be so careful. That is why I cover everything up as I work.

Starter went on pretty easy but just so anyone finding this thread uses this method to take off their starter I had to loosen up the allen bolts holding on the clutch cover to fit the newly rebuilt starter in place. The broken off shaft made the old starter shorter so it came out easier.

so i just had the same issue on Thurday morning and just like the other threads on here said, it is the intermediate shaft, in the starter , that is broken, i had read the thread and thats what they said it was and sure enough i removed the starter and thats what it was, so i ordered all my parts that i needed , http://www.wildsteedworx.com/index....nfo&cPath=65_68_173_82_88_98&products_id=1120, you can order all the parts for the starter and rebuild it yourself.
