Fuel Pump Question..Screaming loud

Is the fuel pumps in our tank a BDM item or can I get one somewhere else.
Mine is screaming all the time even when full. Use to only hear it when the fuel was very low but now all the time.
I am going to make sure my cross over is not clogged up. I can rap down on it and it will stumble at 4K. I put fuel in and it only holds 2 gallons but will not stumble then when I rap down on it...
The noise from the pump is embarrassing. BDM replaced the tank once when the liner collapsed but this one has the other liner process. Any ideas?

I'm not at home so I cannot look at the manual. However, my Wide Glide had the fuel pump and reacts the same as the K-9 when you hit run...(Fuel pump noise until pressure builds up) After that noise is gone. Sounds like a bad pump to me.
The Harley fuel pump may very well be the same.

Check for a leak in the pressure side inside the tank.

I was told that on the HD's that if the pump moved around the pressure line would rub inside the tank and create a pinhole in the line. This would let the pressure drop and force the pump to work overtime to keep up.

But what's up with a fuel tank only holding 2 gallons? Like you said before, check your cross over line for plugging. Not sure that would have anything to do on your fuel pump, but sure does affect your distance riding.

The tank holds 4.6 gallons. What I was trying to point out is the fact the bike would stumble when you banged down on it as if it was starving for fuel. I put gas in it which it only took 2 gallons to top it off and then when i banged down on it the bike ran straight up to the redline with no stumble or anything just pure torque and power.

I will check the cross over and then pull the tank and check the sock on the fuel pump. I have had one liner collapse and perhaps I have had dirty fuel and the sock is clogged or perhaps it has detached. I need to open things up and see.
One way or the other I need to find out.

Don't need it sounding like a dog in heat running around.....:D
I will look at it tomorrow instead of drinking large quantities of my favorite beverages. It is suppose to rain for the next 4 or 5 days here...

I went ahead and pulled the tank. The wire was broken off this thermistor module on the tank door whatever it is. There was no residue inside inside the tank. It has no gel type liner like my first one did that gave way. I pulled the sock out enough to put a light behind it and I can see small holes. The cross over fittings seemed clear as well......
I guess I will pull the pump out tomorrow and look at it in my hand.
The wire was broke off the Thermistor but I do not think it has to do with the screaming. I suppose it is for the low fuel light.

I will pull the pump out of the tank tonight after work.
Can anyone tell me the part number for the unit?
I believe it is a Walbro brand pump. I can orderer one through a dealer if I need to but I want to see if it is a over the counter replacement I can get at a automotive part store as well. You would think it would cross over to something else as well.

I got the pump out. It is a Walbro F20000107 fuel pump.
Did a search on the web and they seem to run about $108.
Even some lawn mower shops come up in the search saying you can get one.

I know this is an old thread but did you ever identify what was causing the loud "screaming" sound? This just started to happen on my 07 Bulldog. Feeling like is may be the fuel pump. What did you find?

Does it start screaming when you turn the key on and push run( assuming you are still running the ehc) or is it after you startup.?

The sound is only noticeable after 5-10 miles. The lower the level of gas in the tank, the louder the screaming sound. Typically a full tank and the screaming is not audible, as level decreases it get louder.

I have a 2009 big dog Mastif EFI, I have the problem with the hissing whining noise in the fuel tank. I have changed the pump checked filter and after the things warmed up it still hisses and wines full tank Or not. Could it be the fuel regulator on the fuel pump housing ? Any help would be appreciated

friend has 09 wolf, same - loud fuel pump, it ended up being the sock at end of rubber hose off of fuel pump, we cleaned it and it worked some but ended up having to replace the sock ( problem solved no noise ), he did have a fair amount of stuff in tank - we put gas in it and washed out several time. may want to check fuel pressure - I think most are around 60 psi.

Call BDM, they just made a kit with all the parts needed for less than what you can get the pump and filter for at an online tractor store. All the O-rings are included. Or, you can get the whole enchilada from S&S for $600,-.

Thanks,I saw that on BDM website but I wasn't sure if that's what it will take to fix my problem . Not sure if the fuel regulator could be what's making this sound
