Got rear ended on K9

Yep, that's what I've been told thus far. @liferider suggested I call the guy he's been posting about. He's a great guy and has the laser tools to measure the bike to make sure it's still true. He said he'd replace the entire rear wheel assembly and the tire since it's really hard to see if billet is cracked without x-rays. He said they'd just do whatever he says since they don't want to be the ones to say 'no, don't replace that' and then me have an issue down the road and come after them big time.

Biggest issue will be finding the parts. If I can't source the new parts (they won't let me use used parts) they'll total the bike. That wouldn't be a bad deal I guess as I'd make them pay me for every aftermarket part on top of book value and then I'd keep the bike and fix it myself.

Interesting...i guess that makes sense about the rim. Would need to X-ray it and at that point probably could have a new one.

Although finding a new one from PM is impossible. Derrick and Donna would probably make you buy both front and rear.

If it was me...i would have the insurance company cut the check for the new rim at whatever the cost and throw in an extra $1000 and get a new set of Chrome PM wheels

I can't see them totaling the bike, my estimate was extremely close to what total value of my bike was and the ins paid with no hassle.

Don't worry bro get all your figures together and send it to them. Their knowledge of these bike are nonexistent. They will pretty much pay whatever the est. as long as it isn't over the value of the bike. They paid me $7,800.00 on my mastiff last year and by looking at it you can't tell it was knocked over until you start looking close. I used the check I got plus cash I had saved to buy my 08 k9.

I'm sure it will work out to you advantage. It's a process that takes a little time.

New parts from Big Dog are unreal expensive ($900 for the outter primary cover for example) so the total cost of parts, paint etc. is pretty huge at almost $9000. I'm not doing the guy any favors, everything that was scratched I've demanded be replaced. Thankfully Big Dog has the new parts listed on their site so it's verifiable.

Here's what I need: these guys are saying the value of my bike is $11,800. I think that's a low ball. They claim to use some third party company to determine value, I trust that like I trust insurance companies... What they'll ask for is some listings of similar bikes. I need to gather a half dozen or so that are priced high market. I've got tons of additions like air ride and head/cam work. I'm wondering if you guys could help me gather some links for bikes listed in the 15k range so I can really press them on what this bike is worth to me. From what I've seen I can't replace it for anywhere near $11,800. I know several of you are in the market or are search geniuses @dentdude36 but a little help finding ones are aren't "a killer deal" would be helpful

Thanks guys, and I'm going to keep the bike. I'll tear it down this winter and get to replacing what needs replaced, and live with what I can live with.

Have you asked them what it cost to buy it back from them? Take the $9,800 and say you'll buy it back for $500

I've heard various numbers and ways insurance companies do this. You just have to ask. Obviously they want to pay the least amount. They may only offer $7500 because they think they can pull 3-4k at auction. But sounds like $7500 to you should be good enough?

I would frame it that you still want to keep the bike so what are they willing to give you in exchange.

The $11,800 number sounds about like the NADA value. If you have extras like exhaust, headwork, etc make sure you have that itemized as well.

This is the first I heard of this and I'm very sorry to hear Sutton, I would definitely try to buy bike back.. but ur best bet is to go on big dogs site and use their bikes as comparisons and cycletrader.. those are all listed higher then normal. Good luck bro

Ah, good idea, didn't realize they listed used bikes.

If you buy it from them you will end up with a salvage title and we know what that does to resale.

True, but I'm hardly worried about that. I have good documentation of what was damaged and if I can get a check and buy it back for almost nothing, then fix it for a reasonable cost, I could afford to sell it for less if I ever wanted to sell it. Most of us have taken a bath on the value vs what they cost new it's almost moot.

I went on clist and ebay also cycle trader. You ahold be able to find several over the value listed. I submitted 3 or 4 listings of similar bikes and they bumped the value on mine. I have statefarm ins. Don't know if that made a difference. So did the lady that hit my bike.

That's because ya don't have any yearly inspections and you drive around with unsafe vehicles.

You can in CO, already looked into it. At most I'll have to run it by the DMV for them to verify the headlight, tail lights and horn are functional. Don't even need turn signals in CO, the bird works just fine

Eric n I were just talking about this, I actually dropped state farm for the bike a whule back because geico was about 2/3 of the price with a better policy. State farm would only offer nada and geico offered that plus an additional 5k for upgrades. I hope Sutton gets what he needs for this bike and really might even be able to buy it back.

You should look around every 3-5 years for a better price on insurance, it will definitely pay off

I have had state farm for ever really on auto and home but been all over on motorcycle insurance.. really sucks for us in the Houston area because we have the third highest rates in the nation and the first highest rates in texas.. my auto literally doubled when I moved here from Wyoming.. sucks for sure.. but oh well
