Chirping sounds.....

Hey guys little update on my bike. 02 Pro Sport Only 3550 miles on it. It sat in a garage several years before I bought it. I worked on her all summer and now I am trying to get some riding time in before it turns to cold.

The problem I am having now is when I let off the throttle I get a lot of chirping noises.

Accelerate and it goes away then let off just using the engine to slow down and all the chirping comes back.

I tried accelerating and then let off to slow down and while it was chirping I pulled in the clutch lever and the chirping goes away, let the clutch out and the chirping comes back.

Would this be common if the clutch needs adjustment or replaced? or something else?

Thanks for any help.

Agree with 3. Clutch in no load. Lift, the belt rides up on the teeth. How loose is the belt? The belt has to be pretty tight.

Before 04 the belts are known to squeak a little and they went to the Teflon lined pulley in 05. My 04 hardtail squeaks unless I lube the belt.

Ive been using Teflon spray but that only lasted a few hundred miles every time. Well the other day no DuPont Teflon lube at any stores so came out with some WD40 brand gel lube and damn it! Over 1k miles and not a damn peep from the belt! Rode all the way up to BBBQ and back and not an issue!

Been meaning to make a post about this actually cause it beats all the other shit everyone's tried

Thanks Sven, the belt is pretty tight. If I put a tape measure on the belt and push down it only moves about 1/2 inch and the same if I push from the bottom up.

Maybe that's why I cant touch the belt without getting my hands black. The belt looks new but maybe the previous owner put something on it and now its worn off.

I have a Harley factory belt measuring tool. The tool sits in the center of the belt. The tool is vertical in placement, then has a... Say it looks like mini pogo stick. The spring collapses, the inner shaft has a ring around it. You tighten the belt, the inner shaft moves down until the inner shafts ring meets the outer shaft. We are talking about zero deflection almost. So a half inch flex is pretty loose.

Thanks Sven, I will look into getting that tool.

Hey Guys I am looking in the 02 service manual and it lists two different settings. One is for Rubber mount belt tension adjustment and the other is for Solid mount tension adjustment. Is this talking about if your motor is mounted with rubber mounts or solid mounted?

Th3infamous. Never used a drive belt dressing. Does that WD-40 Gel stay put? Or does it make a mess of things? Thanks

Better than Teflon spray in that area too. Apply it then let it dry overnight. It stays put pretty much you don't need a lot just a little.

Easiest to apply when wheel is up and just run a very light bead while spinning the rear tire.

If it doesn't chirp no need to apply, I just use it on my 04. The 07 k9 doesn't chirp
