Won’t rev!

hi all, 1999 boxer, 107ci motor, starts and ticks over real easy but won’t rev, and when you try to give it some throttle it sounds like a demented dwarf is trying to beat his way out!.
When she’s ticking over she sounds sweet, any ideas?, please.

Yep, so did I, so I bought an S&S overhaul kit with new everything, still no different, it sounds like it’s way retarded?, just trying to check the static timing it’s an Optima unit, are they prone to any problems?, thanks for your input.

Yeah , programmable, certainly not new, was there when I bought it, checked the wiring diagram, wired correctly and looks to be in good condition, thanks

There are 3 jet holes (idle/low/main) that feed fuel at idle as well as WOT-where all still feed as if idling. So the questions are:
1. Will the bike fire off at tick-over and idle fine? Yes.
2. Will the bike need a throttle opening and still need throttle to keep it idling? Yes. Then the carb is still clogged.
3. If I spray WD-40 or carb cleaner into the carb opening (a/c off), does the engine rev higher? Yes. Then it's the carb with a clogged jet.
4. If I spray said liquids into the carb opening, does the engine remain the same? Yes. Then it's ignition.

These are my best guesses without hearing the engine start, idle, etc.

Just stating the obvious, but you are in need of a thorough tune-up and cleaning. Sven has some good trouble-shooting techniques and I would add "degraded or missing spark to one cylinder." Also sounds like no ignition timing advance from the ignition module, which i would replace first along with cleaning of all parts in the fuel system and fuel tank cleaning with new fuel.

Will check that in the morning mr 41bigdog , that does sound right though, great idea with the wd40 Sven, although she doesn’t need any throttle to keep her idling, will try your suggestions in the morning but still keep thinking it’s the ignition module. Anyone know if they are still available?
