Won’t rev!

Mr. Wright

Knows some things
St right out of the manual
SPARK PLUGS
CHAMPION SPARK PLUGS, used as original equipment in all BIG DOG motorcycles, utilize a
patented semi-conductor resistor to substantially reduce radio frequency interference (RFI)
created each time the spark jumps across the gap of the spark plug. This RFI can result in
starting and drivability problems, loss of performance and can even cause the ignition system
module to completely shut down.
It is extremely important to use Champion resistor-type plug to ensure that the onboard computer
that is the basis of BIG DOG motorcycle’s ignition system, is protected from this RFI.
Do not rely on industry standard cross-referencing to find an alternative brand of spark plugs to
replace your CHAMPION OEM’s with. The replacement plugs may not be of a resistor-type.
Use only CHAMPION RN12YC in S&S motors and RA8HC in TOTAL PERFORMANCE
(TP) motors.
Spark plug gaps are both .038” and torque is as follows: TP: 14 ft-lbs
S&S: 18 ft-lbs

If you don't have a manual, give me your email address and I'll send you one.

Sorry for the delay fella’s, the eta for the ignition module is mid April?!, so we ain’t gonna going anywhere till it turns up but , as soon as it does, I’ll let you know what’s happening. Damn if this works it’s gonna be a relatively easy cheap fix, testacles crossed!!

Did you manage to get a Service Manual yet?

Ok, all installed just got to do the static timing to get her running which I’ll crack on with in the morning, tdc on the front cylinder on the compression stroke, just get the red light to go out and should be in the ballpark!, hope to the gods this works. I know she’s running to rich so got to deal with that next

0:DWell totally pissed off now fella’s, bike running better but now I can see that the coil is underperforming now that the ignition module problem has been sorted. Thanks to 5he instructions that came with unit I was able to identify the coil for certain, so got the test specs and one side is down intermittently, in retrospect I should of tried harder to identify it in the first place and got it ordered two weeks ago!. That’s what you get for being tight!.
Anyway, to finish the job properly I’ve ordered a nice set of handmade Magnacour HT leads, feeling more confident now, can’t bloody wait

Great job, and now you know your bike even better, so you'll be able to help others. Knowledge is a great thing to have to share.

Thanks for sharing. Most of us have been there and done that. When I’m being lazy with my troubleshooting, it sometimes bites me in the ass. Glad you stuck with it and figured it out.
