E3.36 replaces the champion 810/autolite 4164

Been running these in my K-9 for years -- they are fantastic!

Which one is right for these 117 cu in. Motors

I have an 07 K9 with a 117 cu in. engine and the recommended plug from the Manual is Champion RA8HC 12 mm with a gap of .040 . I'm pretty sure S&S says the same thing. I use that plug with no problems. I have used Iridium plugs in the past but I can't say I saw any advantage. My engine is stock. Upgraded engines may want a different plug.

I tried iridium plugs once -- not impressed.
The E3 however has been very good to me. When I was having trouble with o2 sensors/fuel pump etc I would foul out 810's in 300-400 miles where as the e3 plugs just ran and ran. It kept my bike on the road while I figured it out.
Recently when I went to the farm, my rear exhaust gasket bolts were loose, well one was, the other was gone. Back fired a little but it ran -- Knothead was amazed it was running at all. I credit the e3 as really helping that.

Thanks for the info. Next time I change plugs I'll give the e3 a try. It does sound as though you got pretty good results.

Ok, lot's of opinion on what plug to use. All valid. The question now is does anyone have a plug they have had a bad experience with and would advise people to definitely not use ?

None are right, E3's are gimmick plugs which do nothing for performance, stick with Champion which are recommended by S&S.
Doug and Shannon, I have to respectfully dis-agree. I find they are better plugs.
I do not claim better gas mileage
I do not claim better horsepower.

But from my personal experience with my bike, I can say they made a distinct difference.
As previously stated while experiencing trouble several years ago O2 sensor/fuel pump etc I was fouling out champion 810s in appx 300 miles.
I tried, on a lark, E3 plugs. The bike ran and ran.
I still had an intermittent problem that turned out to be the TPS (found much later) but while diagnosing the rest of the issues
I added and ran some seafoam etc and did a few other minor things.
Thinking that alls well, at one point I went back to the 810 spark plugs (new set, gapped properly) and once again in appx 300 miles the plugs were so fouled I had to nurse the bike home.
Again, I put back in the previously used E3 and the issues went away.

I truly understand the skepticism and had it myself until I experienced this. Over the years I've tried different "gimmick plugs" and never had anything I can show for it worth the cost. This time for MY BIKE and MY experience it was different and a distinct improvement (lack of fouling).

I don't know if these will help a carb bike but they did help my efi bike.

And the only claim I make about them is that my experience is that they run when others foul out. I have not seen a mpg increase that I can attribute to these and I don't ride in a fashion that I'd notice a power change. For me, that's a worth while investment and safety net for long runs.

I'm not disagreeing with you Mike, my outlook on it is, I'm not smarter than the engineers that develop the engine and recommended champion spark plugs. If they're working for you great.

Mike, everyone is entitled to their opinion and if they worked for you great. I tried the E3's in Daytona since Pepboys only had them in stock and had the opposite effect as you described, they fouled after 50 miles, cleaned up my old Champions and re-installed and never had an issue for the season. Many of my friends have tried the E3's in their bikes with similar disappointing results. I base my opinion on personal experiences and comments from others who have used them.

The only trouble I've had is with Iridium plugs. Put a set in and within 25 miles started having problems. Switched back to the plugs I took out and no problems. Not sure if it was a one time thing or not. Stayed with my AC and Champion plugs after that.

spark plugs are a billion dollar industry.
Why ? because of the hype, and (almost) anyone can change them.

problem with the jetting =change plugs
problem with oil consumption = change plugs
Ignition problems =change plugs
Your buddy told you =change plugs

my scooters run on the correct size/heat range etc etc
never change them as long as they run good
Cars, now go approx 100k on the original plugs
why do we change them on our bikes at 3-5 k??
THEY DO WEAR OUT, but it takes a long time .
btw ,I have a few "water injected carbs" from the 60's I would like to sell
