Rear Tire Offset/rubbing 06 Mastiff

I have a 2006 Mastiff with lots of mods. The rear tire (a 240) I know it’s another mod it should be a 250, is too close to the right side fender, the tire has been in contact with the turn signal bolt (another mod. I have removed the fender/struts, corrected some wiring issues. I was just going to put new turn signals back on with lower profile attaching hardware. Up on the stand I can see the drive belt rides too far too the righ and sounds and looks like it’s actually rubbing inside the belt guard/ball ramp cover. I will post some picks to get some input BEFORE I remove the wheel and or swing arm. The bike has zero rear suspension movement when I lift the bike, and rides like a hard tail. The damaged part is shown and appears to be part of swing arm pivot/frame, but I have no idea how the damage occurred, I bought the bike this way. I do have a manual, but because so many parts have been replaced, it only goes so far. The forks are not original, the handlebars look like they came off of an earlier big dog, but they were not factory for this bike, the controls left and right Have also been replaced with what appears to be Harley switches, clutch lever, brake lever, ECM is a Thunderheart. I am Getting a big education, or trial by fire. The bike runs well but I’m not going to ride it anymore until I get it all sorted out. I appreciate any input.

Hey JayDawg, Nice bike. Yeah not sure what chewed that up. But you definitely need to take that apart. 240/250 shouldn’t make a difference I wouldn’t think on rub issue. 250 would probably rub even more if theres a problem. Might be why the PO had the 240 on. I am thinking the spacers on the rear wheels are side specific. What little can be seen of the handle bars does look like old school BigDog w/ Harley controls. I would consider that a good thing. Let us know what you find when you get that tire off.

A couple of things, the spacers are specific and tires also have a lot of difference to them. My '06 seems to be super close with new tires (Dunlop 250s) and just barely touching belt when warm - not rubbing though and everything is alighned.

Had the same issue on the Pit running the Dunlop Elite. I had to shave/sand the outer lip to gain belt clearance.

Wow. I think you have a big pile of issues here.

The one that strikes me as the worst is the pivot bolt area and that chewed up spacer.
Is there any lateral movement of the backend?

Eric, Shannon, Knothead -- am I mis-reading that pic?

Running a 260 on my wife's 06 mastiff and still have clearance. I concur, check for proper shims on both left and right side then do belt tension right side first. small adjustments using the swing arm pivot allen as reference, center rear wheel. BTW her tire is a Metzler 888. I didn't see an open service manual in your pictures that you're of course using for reference.................

As several had said in this thread already the wheels spacers are side specific.....you have lateral movement without a doubt as Jersey Mike said in the pivot arm.....looks like the swingarm is missing the spacers from what u can see in the pics....some one changed the tail lights to harley style this is why the big nut....it need the original tail lights back on it with the low profile bolt head... the whole ass end of the bike needs to be taken apart and fixed before you get hurt

And I actually have quite a bit of distance between the tire and the belt, the interference seems more to be the between tire and right side fender and the belt guard/ball & ramp housing.

No lateral movement that I can tell, the swing just seems LOCKED DOWN. I agree there’s a big pile of issue, the one that concerns me most is the swingarm pivot area and the tire/wheel/pulley positioning.

Yeah already changed the taillights With low profile attaching hardware. I can’t find information about that chewed up “spacer”. Even the service manual doesn’t really clearly indicate what that tutor part is.

I am running a Dunlop Elite III 240/40R18. The clearance between the tire and belt is about 5/5” and starys fairly consistent through tire rotation. .

Yeah I appreciate it. I took the photos as I was taking off the fender and struts to show what kind of issues I was seeing. I wish the signals were the most serious Issues.
