Must be a "Lightning Start" battery. I've had good & bad luck with these batteries. At first I thought Wow, 450 cca. I had on last on my 03 Pit Bull 107 S&S without compression releases for 5 years. Then I've had others ( I own 5 bikes) that barely made it a year (11 months). Although in that case it was replaced including shipping for free. I now have a Deka installed in one bike, and will replace all the others with Deka when they take a dump. Great batteries, and don't let the lower CCA scare you off, they have plenty of juice.
Thx for this post JJ. I just bought a Deka. Haven’t even got installed yet but reading your post makes me damn happy I picked it! Mr. Wright had good reviews on the Deka also, definitely helped on deciding.

My comments according to MY experience:
  1. Higher capacity SLA/AGM batteries just cram more into the same size case. A higher capacity battery = more plates spaced closer to each other = much higher probability of sulphate crystals forming between them = lowered output over a shorter time = often the need to desulphate the battery from a properly designed charger.
  2. Lithium type battery for the 2006 Mastiff (& other models) is not recommended by BD Motors due to the type of charging system used.
  3. Duracell brand battery is a questionable choice to use. I went through 3 of those Asian made pieces of crap. The store owner at Batteries Bulbs Plus insisted it was my bike at fault. Batteries would die completely after a few weeks or sooner. Did my own troubleshooting of the bike's charging & electrical systems for proper charging output & parasitic loads & also had the local HD dealer test & confirm my results. Got a full refund from the Duracrap battery & bought a HD branded one & dead battery problems stopped - been 2 years now no problems. The store may have received a bad batch of Duracells, who knows but that brand is NOT the same as when Mallory owned the name. They often leak, they fail too soon, & they cost too much for what you're getting.

I just put in a Shorai LFX36L3-BS12 in my 06 K9
Weight (lbs): 4.55 lbs
Weight (kg): 2.06 kg
Cold Cranking Amps: 540
I replaced a Big Boar battery, I turn the key, let the high beam run 30 seconds to get the lithium battery going and I have never heard the engine turn so quickly. I ran a Bikemaster in my 04 American Ironhorse for 3 years and had no issues, it was still going strong when I sold the bike. I run a Bikemaster DLFP-20HL-BS in my 17 FatBoy S with the 110ci CVO engine and a Bikemaster DLFP-30L-BS in my 17 Road Glide Special 124ci.

Of the 3, I like the Shorai, all of them have BMS's in them to prevent them from over charging or over discharging, I am replacing the DLFP-30L-BS with an Antigravity AG-ATX30-RS 880 CCA, the 124 RGS is a hard start when cold and that battery if 3 years old. It does start easier now that I adjusted the start settings with my Thundermax tuner, I just dont want to take a chance getting stranded hours away in the cold.

I pulled the Bikemaster DLFP-30L-BS and put it on my K9 and it started fine, however the Shorai LFX36L3-BS12 was turning the engine much faster in the S&S 117 K9. I use an Optimate Lithium 0.8A LiFePO4 Battery Maintainer to maintain the batteries.

I know these are not cheap alternatives but just giving you some other thoughts to consider
