I do not have the patience to work through the electrical issues with my 2005 big dog chopper r/t. I have struck out in finding a mechanic to work on it. I would like to upgrade the HCM (I have the old Wireplus system), the stator and the backbone harness. Maybe check out the valve adjusters for misalignment too. Anyone know a good big dog mechanic in western Washington?

Curtis at wildsteedworx in Cali is the closet one that i know of near you...i wished you lived closer to me i would try to fix you up...but 2300 miles apart is a problem.

Next closet one is my buddy Brandon in Pioche Nevada

Thank you knothead I really appreciate the offer. First one I’ve had. I’ll check out the shipping cost to Curtis. It would be a huge plus to have someone look at this bike that knows big dogs.

It’s $846 from the Tacoma terminal to Curtis‘s front door in an air ride trailer. Now I know. Then I have to get it home. If you can’t hear the wheels spinning, I’m sure you can imagine it. Hmmm

Curtis’s website says he’s backed up for three months. $801 to Pioche Nevada. I don’t think I’m realistically considering a $1600 round-trip.
I bet it would be 3500 or more to me...sure wished i could help you on this but that much money is not even within reason

I love it when people think outside the box. See, that’s why I come here. Even if I can’t imagine a way that could work, what an awesome idea. Pretty sure the Wireplus HCM went South this time.

I had Dave Welch owner of Chopper City in Middleburg (Jax, FL) completey rewire my '05 just to get rid of the ehc. Haven't had a problem in about 4 years. I understand your location is the dilemma. My point is find a master builder not a mechanic or tech.

I thought about getting rid of the EHC. It involves getting rid of some things I kind of like about the bike. Turn signals at all. At this point four years doing only regular maintenance sounds great.

BD Rick flew me out to Phoenix to rewire his bike, a few years ago. Do a little research and number crunching.
Having you work on my bike Mr. Wright, would be an honor I don’t have words for. The problem is availability of parts. Whoever put the Wireplus system on this bike in 2010 did a really nice job. But, you know better than I do, they cut wires. I would like to put in Curtis’s box and rotor/stater. I’m going to need the backbone harness and I’m too ignorant to know if I need any other harness. The ignition switch is a three-wire with a Wireplus sticker on it. I would like to get a new big dog switch, but don’t know if I need it. Then there’s the humbleness of my abode. The water froze in the guest house last winter and I haven’t found the leak yet. Think hillbilly.

Sure hope you get it worked out & get back on that chopper. :chopper:

Mr. Wright

Knows some things

Get with Curtis, I believe the harness comes with a key switch. A new stator and vr is recommended. And top it off with a Deka battery and you should be bulletproof.

I haven’t given up on that fantasy yet because the bike fits me so perfectly. It had 2700 miles on it when I bought it, now it has 4580 miles. I have a bike buddy that is a retired electronics engineer coming to look at it Monday. Hopefully I’ll know which parts I need and I’ll get them ordered up from Curtis. Life is a box of chocolates ain’t it? Man, I love chocolate and single malt scotch. Someone recently returned a favor and bought me a bottle of grants blended. That stuffs pretty good too.

Have you tried any of the Custom Bike Shops in Western Washington? There’s a quite a few. Goggle them. Call them in the order of closest to furthest. I bet you can find one with a knowledgeable mechanic. Good Luck! :chopper:
Thanks MickMorris. The first two I tried are now out of business. The third one is backed up until October. Steven Proctor turned me onto one I’m going to call Monday.
