M/C Down

Energy One
my bike 04 pitbull:
I recently discovered a leak in my gas line, drained all the gas out of the tank and replaced the fuel line, I added a gallon of gas enough to get me to the station to fill it up.

Problem: started the bike and I am on my way for gas a 1/2 mile down the road the bike starts "coughing" bogs down powers up about 4 or 5 times and then shuts off. pushed the bike home. I managed to get it starts by pushing and popping the clutch but it only ran for a few minutes before it cutoff again.

I pulled the bowl and float and they don't seem dirty I looked at the thread for that.

I recently changed my pipes on the bike and thinking this may be a jetting issue. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Did you have any problems before the leak? Is it posible that the gas you added was contaminated or had debries in it? you could also pull your fuel shut off out of the tank and check the screen it sounds like your not geting gas.

Was the bike runnin okay prior to the leak? Did you drain the tank completely including reserve, If so you may need to clean the screen on the petcock. Also check for full flow at the carb

I got an 03 pitbull and have the same problem when i run it on reserve.....if it were my bike i would fill the tanks up and see if she runs ok....it sounds like a fuel starvation problem.

Try turning the petcock to ON (not reserve) and completly filling up the tanks, and then go ride.

alright, thanks for all the responses. It was running fine before I changed the fuel line. I am on my way to get gas and fill the tanks. Hopefully that is it..

Well I filled the tanks and still no luck, I went and bought a battery charger just to charge up my battery, I don't think that is the problem. Any more fixes are welcome. I really don't want to pay someone else to fuck up my bike but not sure what the hell is going on with this damn thing

it wouldnt start at all? or you ran down the battery before it would fire? the only thing that has changed is your new fuel line. disconnect at carb open petcock to confirm you have an un restricted flow. if thats good remove the brass plug on the bottom of your carb and check for qany crap in it, if thats good remove your air cleaner (if its not already off) and twist your throttle to see if its squirting. if that is good pull your spark plugs to see if ther smutted up. if there not clean replace em....after all is done see if it fires up.....if it does and still has some mis-firing then replace your plug wires....let me know how it turns out

It sounds like you need to check out the fuel line you installed for obstructions since your problems began there.

Big mike I pulled the fuel line no obstructions, I pulled the plugs and they are very black, I am going to replace them tomorrow morning and see if that is the problem. I hope that is the problem that is the only noticeable thing that I have found. maybe thinking about replacing the battery but I don't believe that is the problem. more to follow damn I really was hoping to ride too. !@#$ W

Are you using the enrichener to start the bike? If so stop it. No reason to every have to use it in Hawaii. If plugs are black then they are fouled out. Replace them.
Did you rejet when you changed pipes? What jets are you running now (intermediate).

Raywood, I do not use the enricher, I just replaced the plugs but still no luck. The jets are stock, the problem is not really sure what to do with the jets.

I would replace your spark plug wires next and clean the plug wire ports in the coil real good...remove any oxidation....i had a similar problem with my bike a while back....went through carb electronics and plugs...ended up being a $29 set of plug wires
keep us posted

Well I am breaking the bike down to parade rest. Removed the gas tank and cleaned the petcock screen it was really fouled. The inside of the tank is pretty dirty. any cleaners recommended for inside the tank?. this is probably over the top but might as well do a thorough job. I am going to remove the carb and take it to a local shop that said he would take a look at it and make any adjustments that may be needed. The shop thinks that it may be the EHC. I have put new spark plugs in it but may look to replace the wires. It honestly sound like a starter, thanks again all
