whoe there cowboy.now im really confused.how did the starter get into this?if you can pull the bowl you can pull the jets bro.pull them suckers annd blow them out.if your tank is dirty and you drained it to replace the hose you may have gotten something in the jets.why would you think the starter is the problem?or am i reading this wrong?the bike ran fine before the hose replacement right?

Well I am breaking the bike down to parade rest. Removed the gas tank and cleaned the petcock screen it was really fouled. The inside of the tank is pretty dirty. any cleaners recommended for inside the tank?. this is probably over the top but might as well do a thorough job. I am going to remove the carb and take it to a local shop that said he would take a look at it and make any adjustments that may be needed. The shop thinks that it may be the EHC. I have put new spark plugs in it but may look to replace the wires. It honestly sound like a starter, thanks again all
just want to clarify something... the bike cranks over but it doesnt fire, right ????

Okay when it rains it pours. Well while removing my carb and discovered my throttle cable was frayed so I decided to remove it to replace it. Well in doing so the black wire located in the handlebar control came loose. Does any body know if this can be solder back together or do I need to buy a new control? Man can this get any worse?

man all this aftr changing a fuel hose?the wire your talking about sounds like the brake light switch wire.where did it break?

it tore out from the circuit board, not sure if I can just replace that or if I need to order a new control. I need to get this fixed before I can even think about the other issues with the bike right now. I pick the carbs up from the shop on WED.

Well, after my wire in the lever got messed up I decided that was a good stopping point. After thinking about what problem with the bike is, and looking into the gas tank yesterday and seeing the amount of crap the only thing I can think of is that some crap ran through the bike hopefully that is it. well now I have to wait for the carb and need to get this control either replaced or fixed. Again thank you all

I am going to contact a big dog dealer tomorrow to find out if I can replace the board, hopefully that is the way to go! I am actually trying to solder the wires in now.

Nelson from WB Cycles is taking care of getting a P/N for the brake sensor. I am waiting on the Carb and should be ready for Pick up Wednesday. I am really leaning torwards crap in the fuel, I am thinking about taking my shop vac and using it to blow all the shit out of the tank. While the bike is apart I am checking on getting some touch up paint done on the gas tank and around the gas caps where paint has been flaking off. The shop is going to install paint protectors in the tank. I am going to use this time to get some polish on the real hard to reach spots. May not run worth a damn but its going to look good!!! once I get it put back together, I will let you guys know. Again I love this website and the Help here is incredible. Thanks!!!

Finally got all the parts in to get the bike back together. Having a few issues with replacing the throttle cable mainly too much slack on the idle cable. I know there are a bunch of threads I am still looking. does anybody know if the idle cable needs to be shorter?

Probably just needs to be adjusted!!!

Okay, This is probably a rookie question, I have been F!@#$ with the throttle cable trying to make the adjustment for way too long. It seems to be too long on the idle cable. it either slacks on the carb butterfly or the cable slacks on the handlebar control. Not sure how to fix this simple issue..

Cable on lever side goes on bottom hole of grip , cable on switch side goes over top into grip also you can take magnetic portion out of control housing using .050 allen wrench to make it easier to resolder. I have extra board if you get in a bind, it's for 04 and has flat copper contact surfaces but you might want to consider new style as they have micro switches instead of flat contacts (better contact) you will also have to change rubber boot for new style. I would try resoldering first but thats just me

The bike is up and ready for a ride fired on 1st try. Thank you everyone who pitched in with trouble shooting and all the help. This was probably way more involving than it needed to be. but here are the issues, some were probably self imposed problems.
1. Leak in fuel line- Replaced
2. dirty carbs and not sure what the gasket in the bottom of the carb is but I know if its in upside down fuel will not get to the carb. I hate to say it but I believe that the station where I had the bike serviced a few weeks ago may have put it in backward. enough of paying someone else to fuck up my bike.
3. Replaced the brake switch and throttle cables. the idle cable was too long had roger from custom fab choppers in Hawaii make a shorter one and it works great.
4. Had the tank paint touched up while everything was apart, a couple of chips and the paint around the gas cap was flaked.
5. Polish, Polish and more polish, Shit the bike was not running
4. replaced the plugs
5. heat shrink wiring throughout.
Thats enough. Thank you again guys hopefully I can repay the favor someday. TIME TO RIDE !!!

Okay 1 more question, hopefully my last on this thread. I started the bike up tonight and while the bike is started I have 1 red light on the ehc lit. Should this be of concern? or am I just worried for nothing. I do not have the owners manual for the bike and I have checked Gas forum on EHC lights.
