Running rich

Someone explain why I'm wrong. One carb feeds both cylinders with the same mixture, so both should be lean or rich? Only difference is rear cylinder running hotter.
Could your engine breath heavily from crank case to carb, hotter cylinder burns the oil better? Or is that a stupid idea?
Exhaust leak

"PS: I think you should still up the main jet. Do Google search how to check plugs for each circuit. (Intermediate and main)"

Is that directed to me? I've googled plug reading and carb and all kinds of wording to try to get some ideas.

Which side would the exhaust leak be on if I'm rich on front lean on rear?

Exhaust leak would be on the rear because your not able to pull the right vacuum to draw in the gas.

Like to see a pic of the plugs though

Never seen a plug with that type of end.. Is that iridium or platinum or something? Looks more expensive than the $1.50 OEM plugs I use...

With that said looks like exhaust leak on rear cylinder..what kind of pipes do you have.

I just threw away about 10 sets of plugs I wasted trying to tune some pipes that I just couldn't get to seal right. Anytime I change jets or gaskets I'd put in a new set of plugs. They looked like yours. I tried 3 different kinds of exhaust gaskets and even combinations to no avail. Got rid of the pipes got rid of the problem. I was fighting a problem that ya just couldn't fix..shitty pipes

the pipes are Vance and Hines. I saw the plugs recommended on some thread here. I think they're e3 brand. They weren't cheap. The thing is at one point I did have them pretty close. But they were a lil lean. I'll see if I have a pic of them too. For a while I was testing on regular plugs. These have only been in since I've gotten the bike to physically and feel better.

These are from a few weeks ago. The exhaust pic is right now. Not sure if it helps at all but they're close to the same color. Not very sooty. The one from the front cylinder is slightly darker.

Also when I start the bike cold it barely idles and I give it a little throttle it blows black smoke. When it warms up it idles fine and no smoke.

Well those are not crappy pipes so check the torque on the exhaust flange on the rear, needs to be about 6-8 ft/lbs. Not much but they do tend to loosen.

BTW those plugs looked pretty good...what did you do? Haha

Lean is mean..maybe only needed one size up from there that's it

I rode around easy throttle for about 40 miles. Under 3k for the most part. This is what they looked like when I got home. I had 1 sneeze through the carb while riding. It started to stumble a little bit getting on it from lower rpms.

Get rid of those Bogus plugs with the plate for a ground strap. Use the right heat range for your motor, and the proper plug. Set the gap @ .035".
Ain't no magic in any fancy style plug. Always more trouble than their worth, and makes your wallet a lot lighter.

Forgot to mention, a carbureted V-twin will run richer in the rear cylinder.
Take a compression test. Check your engine for a possible vacuum leak. Front cylinder looks rich.
