the mastiff caught on fire!

If that was Sunday morning, I saw the cops and fire trucks rushing down toward main street. That really sucks but, as sul said the Pres is running around between the 2-3 locations, 2 of Carls places and the speed way. He's very nice and wants to help. I know he's taking care of one of the members here that is having a very abnormal tire wear problem.

tow it over to carls speed shop. the bd truck is there and so was the president. start a stink there and they might give ya another bike just to get rid of "ole crispy".
You could tow it over to my truck at Carl's but the President was only there yesterday for a couple of hours, I don't know and highly doubt he will be there any more this week, he has a factory with 200+ employees to run in Kansas. Keep in mind that's only speculation on my part as I am not made aware of his schedule. I am just the driver and have no authority to do anything about it. There is a factory rep at the other rig down at the speedway but I don't know what he would be able to do for you in this area either.

Sorry for your loss.

Since most of you guys have been around here longer than I have and have seen or heard stories with these vr's give me a little ammo to go over there with. Is this something that happens with regularity? My other dilema is I have to work this week, but took off Thurs, Fri with plans to stay for a long weekend in daytona. I could trailer it over Thurs, but If this isnt going to get me anywhere I would just assume take it to the local dealer here in orlando. If I can get some feedback with this type of thing happening then I figure it would be worth the drive over fighting traffic to see what can be done. thanks again for all the replys.

I would take it over and talk to Ohmster(Jason Rogers) and Scott the Truck Driver. Both great people and Jason is the Electrical guy at the factory. He's at Carl's helping out I think for the week. Talking to them will at least get you a contact at the factory.

Don't take it to your dealer... take it to Carl's for Ohmster... why take it to a standard mechanic when you can take it to a moble factory guy!!

Man, that sucks. I'm sorry to hear about that. I would definitely follow everyone's advice and take it to the BDM truck. From what I've seen/heard/read, Big Dog seems to be pretty good about standing behind their product. Hopefully they'll do their best to make this right. Let us know how it goes.

I would also get ahold of BD and make arrangement to take it over to Ohmster and Carl's in the morning. They should be able to help you out for BD does have a good reputation for standing up to the plate.

That and the VR is under recall and if your is one of those that it applies to (with a year dated 04-05VR), then I am sure that they would want to get right on it. If not one of the dated, I am sure that they would want to know also.

I do highly recommend that you get plenty of detail picture of the damage, the orgin of the fire, close up, wide views, etc. Also get any police reports together, possibly a report from the responding FD, service records, etc.

Have them handy with copies, just in case BD does not immediately step up and you have to go higher levels such as the U. S. HTSA and DOT, remember 04-05 Federal Recall!!!!!!

BTW, overall how much damage and is there any pics. Is it limited to the VR and some localized wiring or did it get to bucking the paint, F'ing up Billet, etc.

Sorry to hear about this and keep us up to date on the outcome, hopefully quick outcome.

fibersnake,
the damage isn't all that bad. I will have to really look at it good. It was dark when I trailered it home and this morning I only had a min or so to look at it before work. Doesn't appear the fire damaged the frame or discolored it. It did get hot down between the foot controls the aluminum there. I saw a bit of discoloration there and the wires and Vr cover are all fryed. I'm not sure if i would even be able to read the Vr to see if it was a recalled one or not. I did make an incident report with the Sheriffs office. I will check with the Fire dept to see if they can release the incident report. I will plan on trying to get in touch with the BD guys in daytona and trailer it over Thurs.

I'd drop that bike off at the trailer at about 5-6 am before they open up and have a note on it saying "Surprise!"

If it's in fact a recall voltage regulator there is no reason big dog won't foot the bill. I don't know that I would go to the trouble of wheeling it up to the big dog tent. That could hurt you more, than help. Having it inspected by ohmster is a great idea.
