Replacement ignition key switch

Ok, I just discovered this today and can't find any related topics on the forum so I figured I should post it.
I needed to replace the stock ignition switch in my 04 chopper DT and found a lot of posts about using Sportster switches and having to possibly break out the grinder to get a good fit ...well, screw that!
While pondering what I was going to do I came across a couple parts unlimited switches, looked on ebay, in the local parts stores etc...etc...and on and on with not much luck finding anything that wouldn't require modification of some kind.
Until I was wandering through the local Orschelns, (its a farm store) looking over their automotive section I came across a perfect looking switch! It was about the right size, had two wires and an all metal body. (not like the cheap plastic BD stock ignition) I paid $13.49 for it and I'm telling you guys no lie, if I had made the thing myself I couldn't have made it fit any more perfectly! I swear it was as if BD had this little switch in mind when they built the bike! It actually fits better that the stock ignition! I hooked it up and it's like a rock, works like a champ.
The switch is made by a company called Calco, its part number C63083 . It is originally made to fit most FORD MODELS 1939-1964!!
You can Google Calco C63083 and it'll bring up the link to orschelns farm and home.
I don't know if it fits other Bds but for 13 bucks? It's worth a try!

Sometimes you find the best stuff accidentally!!!

Do they have a switch like that with three wires instead of two so the lights could be wired to turn on separately? That would be the shit!!! :2thumbs:

Good find!

That's the exact one Eric! And only 6.95 on ebay! Hell, for that price I might buy a dozen and hand them out to all my buddies with bid dogs!
I don't know about a 3 wire version though, that would be awesome..

I didn't see any with 3 wires on ebay. That might be a stretch doubtful that was an accessory on 30-40's Ford Tractors.

Excellent info. I've been hunting down a key blank for 02 pitbull. I may just go ahead and swap out the switch.

Good find sekcycles,
no store remotely close to me to save on the shipping of $12.95.
However someone buying several then shipping for those of us interested would save on the ebay shipping amount!
I'd be in for one :)

So sekcycles, or anyone else who has installed this key switch... Does the key stay put? My stock key is always on a carabiner clipped to the spark plug wire, because the key falls out every freakin' ride, no matter how brief.

If mine did that I would just take it back out myself and put it back in my pocket after I turned it on (until I could get by Tractor supply).
Not a bad plan... for you. But, I'm absentminded enough that sooner or later I'd walk off with the ignition and headlight still on. THAT would truly suck. Until I get a replacement switch, I'd better rely on the carabiner method.

I just put in the tractor supply switch myself last week to replace that crappy switch from wire plus. It fits and works perfectly.

....... I'm absentminded enough that sooner or later I'd walk off with the ignition and headlight still on.....
just for full disclosure.....I have done that...... more than once.......and my key stays in the ignition (so far anyway).

My solution so far is to TRY to remember to turn the engine off with the key instead of the off switch on the bars.
